I've heard good things about FEAR... any first hand anecdotes?

definitely scary

played once at night w/ my 5.1 setup and 19in...scared me enough to not ever try that again.

FEAR sometimes scares the $hit out of me. It is a really good game. Whoever 'directed' it really knows how to create an intense/suspenseful atmosphere. The sound effects and mood sounds are excellent. Your character even breaths heavy when it starts to get creepy. Highly recommended but I can only take about an hour at a time..

FEAR is a nice game but very, very taxing on hardware. My Pentium 4 2.8GHz, 512MB ram, 9600XT AGPx8 video setup is not good enough to play at 1024x768 resoultion. It is too slow to be enjoyable. I would have to drop resolution to 800x600, which would look ugly on 21" monitor.

In todays Tatget B&M add they have it for $44.88 with a free instant $10 gift card.
So if you have more shopping to do there, it's basically $34.88. Not quite as good a deal but if you're out and about and don't want to wait.....

I played the demo and it was great, although as will792 said, very demanding on hardware. However, his RAM amount and video card are not enough to play quite a few recent games at medium to high res these days. 1GB and a 6600/9800pro type card, I think, is a good baseline for a decent FEAR experience.

This game is awesome, including, IMHO, the multiplayer. But it needs a a dedicated server--preferably on Linux. Without one I guarantee this game will be completely dead within a few months.

My copy crashed to desktop every so often, like several times per gaming session.

Also, would it kill the developers to use a color palette that includes something besides GRAY?????

if you want more colors, play serious sam! 😉
joking, but yeah gray kind of got old after awhile, but I guess its supposed to fit with the theme of the buildings. But that doesnt make it a bad game, its worth it for this price!

what kind of machine could run this thing nicely? I'm running a 2.8, gig o ram, 9800pro...what res am I looking at with this rig?
