I got one of these not too long ago, I don't remember if it was this deal or maybe from axshop. The enclosure itself says "youngmicro.com" on it. I might as well have just thrown that money on the ground. It's completely useless because it's too small. The drive won't fit inside it, and when I compare them the enclosure is the exact same height as the drive.

older 2.5" harddrives were 12.5mm thick, which is definitely too thick for the 9.5mm enclosures linked in this thread. i have the one from axshop and it works fine, plug-n-play with winxp home. the extra usb plug is to get extra power. the main one can carry data, while the secondary plug is power only. my 4200rpm drive doesn't need it, but a 7200rpm drive or even 5400rpm might need both usb ports to run properly.

Not all USB ports supply enough power for the drive. So, the 2 ends go in to USB ports on your computer, while the single end goes to the enclosure. Saves you from having to carry an AC adaptor to go with the enclosure.

Thanks for the info on the cable....this thing works, but the case is really cheap. If you need something tough, spend more.

That explains it, thanks. I never knew that and I wondered how they could sell such a useless piece of crap without complaints. The HD in question is an old 6gig IBM.
