1) Will this board work with my corsair C2PT Memory in my sig. 2)Will I notice an increase in performance at 12x10 res? With my current comp I can play BF2 and source all at high anyway.. 3) Should I just stay put until AM2?

In short: 1) It should. 2) Yes. 3) You will have to buy new DDR2 memory and there may not be a performance gain with the cost.

You will have to buy new DDR2 memory

Sorry supa, I didn't catch that .... duly noted.

This is $20 cheaper than the Newegg deal (after rebate, unfortunately), so it looks good to me.

This is almost certainly a Jetway board with the usual NF4 trimmings. As far as comparing it to the top two NF4 boards out, the DFI and the Epox, it will not perform better than either, but it is a good price. Also, be aware that there are four different EVGA 7800GT cards out, with the numbering scheme being 515,516,517 and 518. The 515 is what is offered in this bundle and it is clocked the slowest compared to the rest. So asssuming $299 for the card, then this board would be akin to paying $40 after rebate for an NF4 board. If you need a good board, then this is a worthwhile deal. If you want flat out performance, then skip this and look elsewhere. Either the Epox or DFI with a 517 EVGA card would be a better performer.

Here's the EVGA cards:
515: reference cooler, 445/1070mhz
516: GTX copper cooler, 460/1100mhz (some of these are stock clocked at 470/1100 for some reason; both of mine were)
517: GTX copper cooler, 470/1100mhz
518: reference cooler, 445/1070mhz, EVGA SLI motherboard

Yeah see, all these guys are being a little dishonest. The eVGA site says this is supposed to be a totally free board. But as you can see, they charging extra for the card and MB bundle. Thus the MB isn't free at all; you are pay some $40-50 for the MB. The 7800GT in the bundle is the $299 (lowest clocked / non-copper-heatsink one).

With that Jetway board, I've had some stability issues with different PSUs. It took two RMAs to get it right. I RMAed it once to ZZF and got an even more defective one back -- one that wouldn't even POST. ZZF was terrible the second time I tried to RMA it. After almost an additional two weeks of me bothering them, they finally approved the second RMA. The motherboard works now, but fair warning... if that eVGA is the Jetway board... that is.

Zebo, that review paints a nice picture of that Jetway board, but I wouldn't say EVGA just slapped an EVGA label on this board and called it a done deal. Firstly, EVGA has tinkered with the BIOS (check the EVGA forums, an EVGA splash screen comes up every single time you boot and it cannot be permanently disabled). Thats a minor annoyance, but there are other issues with this board that deserve some research and digging before you commit any $$ to buying it. Obviously, the board's PCB is red, as opposed to the EVGA green with yellow and blue slots, so it doesn't necessarily have to be the exact same board either. Read up on this board before you buy, as just like the ASrock SATA II 939, it requires some knowledge to get things working properly.

So is it a good deal or not? I would be upgrading from a DFI NF3 agp motherboard with a Leadtek 6800nu 128mb videocard. I plan on ditching them on Ebay and putting the cash towards a pci express mb and videocard. This may be a bottom teir EVGA 7800GT but wouldn't it still be a nice jump from a 6800nu (vanilla) card?

So will this combo deal fit the bill and give me a nice performance increase? Or should I spend my money elsewhere like wait for the 7800GS agp board next month?

Thanks

The "EVGA logo" screen can now be turned off through the newest BIOS available at EVGA.

I haven't had any problems with my combo (see sign.) and set up was easy (no RAM issues and running T1, etc.). I didn't try OC'ing too much cause my home office is very warm in the summer (and I've got 3 PCs kicking out a LOTTA heat in a small room😉. The 7800GT I got with my package (from the Egg) was screwed and it took 2 RMAs through EVGA to get a working card, but the issues were obviously with the video card and NOT the board (i.e., the PC works great with the last video card I received and I didn't change anything else on the PC).

I really like EVGA. If you have a problem with EITHER the mobo or video card which comes in the combo...EVGA will exchange the defective part directly (i.e., if you buy the combo through the Egg and ONE of the parts is defective such as JUST the video card...the Egg will reportedly make you send the whole combo back for an RMA).

smokey, ditch the AGP 7800 thinking, as it is now time to think ahead, not sideways, in your upgrade path. Why bother buying an AGP card when you wwon't be upgrading to a new board with AGP ... its just pointless. Yes, this combo is a good deal for what you get, and in your case it will result in a significant bump in performance (provided the games you play now or near future demand it).

Budarow, thanks for the input. I was unaware of the BIOS fix even though the EVGA forums were crawling with posters asking, nay, demanding, this be taken care of by EVGA. Also, there are plenty of EVGA board users with no issues whatsoever such as you, but the board may just be picky about the type of RAM that it gets which is the most common complaint on the forums. Looks like your Patriot RAM is the most problem free sticks so far.

NF4 boards have had their share of minor issues that users have eventually worked out, so I would not expect otherwise from this board. I am very anxious to pull the trigger on this deal, but I'm still about $75 short of the necessary fundage, so I may just hafta sell off some spare parts.

I hear you🙂 I got an Opty 146 for Christmas and have had "most" of the other components for new PC (other than mobo and video card) so I'd wouldn't mind buying this combo again EXCEPT the credit card bill (from X-Mas) DEMANDS I pay it off before any more PC purchases. After all...paying interest charges to a CC company turns a HOT deal COLD real fast😉

ZZF is also $10 cheaper than Monarch: $330 shipped AR. I picked one of these up (along with an opteron 165 in the FS/FT forums) to upgrade from the system in my sig.

Thanks OP!!!

Yes this combo is really coming down in price fast! I wonder why no other companys have latched onto this high end vid card/MB combos?

**KA - POWWW** I just pulled the trigger on this deal from ZZF ... got tired of waiting, business picked up and I now have the fundage necessary. I wasn't expecting to sink another $76 into this deal, but my current 420watt PSU didn't have enough juice on the +12 volt rail. Now I have a lotta spare parts to ditch and no convenient way to get rid of them. Before you say FS/FT forums, I gotta mention I don't have a C.C. (wife took it away as I have a bad spending habit).
Wuuu-PISHHHH !!

I sell my parts on craigslist.org (I really don't like shipping stuff) and have had much success although the flake-to-buyer ratio is annoyingly high at times. Not sure if you have local listings where you are though.

I have this combo and I have been very happy with it. I haven't messed with overclocking, but I have heard some people have had more success with this board than some of the asus boards.

I bought this combo from Tiger Direct about a month ago and it is still going strong. I also got the Ultra 600W PSU/case combo for about $30 AR, and an AMD 3700. With harddrive and optical drive it came out to around $750 AR. I haven't looked into overclocking as the 4 games I have tried Quake 4, COD2, HL2, and Madden 2k6 all ran with all settings maxed out. Some combinations of equipment might yield a higher 3dmark but this system works just fine in real world for the price. Just my .02

Combo works for me...hit the EVGA message board for feedback.

I have a FX-55 running at 2.9ghz but I'm limited by the vcore in my K8N NEO2 so that's as far as I can go, I wonder if this board will let me go higher. I also have a 6800GT in my system and I'm wondering if this is worth the upgrade or if I should wait.
