This is a hot little phone, only 50 bucks after rebates -- It's hard to pass up!

I'm personally trying to decide between this and paying for service, or getting the samsung r225 for free for 2 months with 3000 min/month service.. but they just dropped this to 49.99 from 149.99 making it even better.

I've been researching this phone and have seen a few people who said this phone got bad reception.

This is my #1 concearn since my current phone (using Cricket) does not get reception within my apartment.

I don't want to get off topic, but any suggestions on what phone to go with for reception? Ideally I'd like one I can use on my Cricket service, but am willing to get a different provider if not too expensive.

i have the phone and it gets great reception. i have no idea why people say that. then again i live in an area where i get really good coverage usually.

yea i heard this phone doesnt have that much of good reception also..

well ima get one this weekend ... the t68-i , i think it looks better than t68 but neway
i shall test it out =]

i get my paycheck in 2 days and i'm planning on buying a cell phone with it and this was top 2 on my list, the other being the v60. I live in the suburbs of San Francisco where there are hills every which way so I don't think I can get ultra-clear reception no matter where i go. My parents nokia's work pretty decent, it gets the job done, and they're nokia's are old and were cheap/free so I don't think this clear reception problem woudl affect me too much... then again this isn't a thread about me 🙂

What really pisses me off is that I can go to my local mall and buy this phone for like $200.00, but its not available to me at Amazon for $49.00. I'm really confused about that since T-MOBILE is available in my area. I could go to the mall right now and buy this phone with T-MOBILE but obviously not willing to pay that price. Does Amazon have some kind of agreements with certain cell providers about where they can ship the phones? I'm tired of Sprint and my contracts up in 3 days!!!!!!!!!

Only thing is, it's only offered with Voicestream, whereas I was looking to get the phone for an AT&T contract, so I wouldn't get any discounts. damn. 🙁

I'd be careful with the T68. There are huge differences between the different hardware/firmware versions of the phones. I had a first generation model, which bordered on unusable. The reception was terrible, the microphone sensitivity was set incorrectly at the factory, the screen washed out in daylight, the keys couldn't be seen at night, etc, etc. All of these things have been fixed in more recent hardware/firmware versions.

I sold my phone and am waiting for the T68i to become more widely available (I have VoiceStream). The reps will tell you that the only difference between the T68 and the i version is software, but this is not true. There are many noticeable usability improvements in the T68i. Other than the bugs, this is a great phone, but YMMV with which version you get. More information on these issues can be had at www.tsixtyeight.com.

Yea, you might want to edit the title to t68m. The one to get is the t68i which has more features and is the superior phone. I don't even think the camera works on the t68m.

This phone is rumoured to have slightly less reception than others. I have had absolutely no dramas with mine at all and I've had it since March. Are these phones network locked? That's what I'd like to know.

Barneyfife, the only differences between the T68m and T68i are the casing, keypad lights and software. Sonyericsson have offered a free software upgrade for the T68m to give it all of the functionality of the T68i, including using the communicam. Both phones will use the MCA-10, but the MCA-20 will only work with the T68i. I have yet to try the camera in mine, prices around here are way too high for them.

The software upgrade should only take about a half an hour, but I had to send mine away and apparently only one tech had a clue what to do so it took a week until I got it back. The software upgrade really makes a huge difference. The MMS is really cool, I just need to find people to send MMS messages since I get it free until October 1st.

mwdelta must have had a lemon. You get that with all models. Nokias are notorious for their problems (screen fade in several models, liquid ingress in 82xxs from faulty construction, software lockups on the 33xx series, the list goes on).

I guess it depends on your service area. A guy in my office hates his because it drops as soon as he walks into a building.
