i got mine for $175+tax after few minutes of good haggling at the local guitar center.. with this you dont pay tax and shipping is only at around $10. on top of that you save gas money + time :thumbsup:

for those of you who arent in the know, this is the best soundcard you can get for music at this point. RME hammerfall is supposed to be better, but at the pricepoint its better to get DAC-1.
 
Would this be a compelling upgrade from an Audiophile 2496? I finally got everything setup for my studio but haven't been able to try it out yet. I'm using an hardware 16 track mixer.
 
If you pricematch with Music123.com perhaps you can get away with free shipping. OTOH it's listed OOS and if I'm reading it right, it should be back in stock around 1-2 weeks time from now.

Wonder if the price drop for both Audigy 2 ZS (also under Hot Deals) and EMU branded sound cards has anything to do with that Creative get together that happened a few days ago concerning EAX 5, new hardware, & whatnot.

1212-m isnt exactly better... 0404 uses top of the line AKM DAC and 1212-m uses crystal. just for pure music playback, it all comes down to preference. enjoy your 0404, i would have gotten one to seeing how 1212-m's MSRP is twice of that of 0404 🙂

save the $$$ to upgrade to something serious like ppx3. i am loving mine every second of my listening pleasure 🙂

I love the way music sites do online pricematching. Between zzounds, music123, and 8thstreet, I got all my gear a couple years ago for exceptional prices.
 
Placed the order for mine before the price went back up! Got a shipping confirmation this morning. 😀 This was an awesome deal!! I currently have the Chaintech AV-710 and was going to save up for the E-MU 0404, but this was too good to pass up.

VanillaH is right though; although the 1212m is the better solution for recording, for playback it would probably come down to personal preference between the 0404 and 1212m. Supposedly, the 0404 sounds more aggressive & dynamic while the 1212m is smoother, more detailed and refined.

Either one will blow away the Audigy cards in terms of music playback, though.
