Like the usual ECS products, this probably won't be something you'll want to overclock with, but it's a nice vanilla board for the price.

It's not in stock right now, but ETA is 2/28/05, just a couple of days! 🙂

 
I have always had trouble with ECS boards, bad CS and drivers are almost impossible to find for certain models. I think I will spend the few extre $ and support a company willing to support their product.
 
I just got done building my parents pc and upgrading my brothers pc with ECS motherboards and they both work flawless to this day. I've had good luck with them with the exception of the ECS K7S5A back in the day that i had problems with.

Um, one look at the picture and you can clearly see that there is no second X16, or even X4 or X2 slot, that would be capable of running a GFX card.

ECS-FRY's all the way. NEVER had any problems. Writing this on a 3rd ECS-AMD MB (upgrades), that's working for 3 years now.

K7S5A, XP-2000+ : no problems with drivers in linux!
 
Same here. My systems ECS boards have been pretty solid. Only problem I ever had on my K7S5A was GTA Vice City wouldn't run. If CS and warranty support are bad, that could be a problem, but it's only $75. That's cheaper than buying used.
 
I've built three systems with ECS boards and never had any problems. One was the K7S5A and can't remember the model number on the others but they were based on the Via KT133A chipset. They may be plain Jane boards with little or few OC'g features but the designs are usually good and perform very well for a stock board.

I used to do a lot of OC'g with the early celerons when you could coax a 50% boost through the FSB. Economically it made a lot of sense then. However, with as cheap as Athlons are anymore, coupled with only incremental increases in real performance, I don't think it is worth the trouble now. Under those circumstances, all you really want is a good clean stable board and that seems to be the niche that ECS occupies.

Regarding crap mobo's, my worst experiences are with MSI. I've build numerous systems using Abit, Asus, Epox, MSI and ECS. I have had more failures with MSI than any other. In fact, when I think about it, the only mobos that have completely failed me were all MSI's, three of them.

well, with an nForce board driver support isn't an issue, though. nVidia will give you all the drivers you need, *possibly* excepting sound drivers depending on what chip they use, but again those are easy to come by 🙂

This is a smokin' deal for the price. I wonder how long until this shows up in a Fry's combo special 🙂

I've build around 10 ECS systems and have had little to no problems. The one exception was their Nforce2 board which I could never get quite right...so I gave it to a friend who doesn't really notice the weird way it operates.... just my two cents.

yeah they are like that, but thats because they forcus 99% of there energy on oem, and bare boards, they make boards for like 3/4's of the motherboard makers out there, abit, shuttle... u name it

there boards are really cheap and solid though
 
i've never had much problem with ECS boards I've owned. They cut some corners and have limited OC ability in general, but get the job done (in my experience anyway.)

this looks like a decent board.
 
Last year I got a Athlon 2500+/ECS nf2 combo for $80. Brought it home set it up and raised the FSB and it's been @2.2ghz/3200+ ever since. At the time and even now, you can't find any better for that price.

Of course YMWV. 😉

Why would anybody buy the cheapest board in a series to run either dual pci express cards OR SLI?

Premature speculation?

ECS boards are normally ok basic boards. I have not had much trouble with them.


 
You guys better watch out with ECS. If you are not aware, ECS only provides 1 year warranty on their motherboards. BUT, here is the catch: the so-called "one year" starts on the invoice of the purchaser and NOT the invoice of the end user.

So, for example:

Let's say Newegg bought the motherboards from ECS on March 1st, 2005. You then make the purchase from Newegg on April 10th, 2005. The one year warranty ends on March 1st, 2006 of Newegg's invoice and not your April 10th one. I found this out earlier this year so I thought it would be best to tell others. So for the end user, it's not even a one year warranty. It's more like a 10-11 month warranty.

Just for good measure, when you are about to make the purchase wherever you may choose (Fry's for example), you better find out the company's invoice date with ECS so you can get a good idea of the REAL length of the warranty.
