Picked up 2 today at BB in Flint, Mich.
I called first (I had nearly 30 mile drive one way folks!) and the dude said they had 3 or 4 left. When I got there an hour later all I could find was 2 (which is what I wanted), so don't know if there are any more. The UPS's are all over the place in that BB.
So there may be more still.

Got a question (maybe a dum one).
It says it can be used immediately and then follows with the 1st time you plug it in to turn it on and leave it connected for 16 hours.

Does that mean to charge it up first before plugginh stuff into the battery side plugs?

I assume it means just start plugging everyhting in and run it. But if the power goes out before the 16 hours is up then it will try to run off the battery. Where I live it is common to have the power do brownouts and just go by-by quite often.

Yeah it means you can start using it, but leave it charging for 16 hours. Actually it normally only takes a few hours since they often come with a partial charge, they just say that to cover thier butts. If the power goes out before its fully charged, you'll probably get some backup time. If not though, your computer will just turn off like it does normally in a power outage.

If it concerns you, dont plug computer into it until its fully charged. Of course then you'll still have the computer die when the power goes out 🙂

BTW, brown outs are much worse and more damaging than black outs. Lower voltage usually keeps stuff going, but it sure isn't happy when it does. Not as damaging as overvoltage, but still not healthy.

Unless you mean just brief blackouts. They have differant definitions.

Exactly. I recommend just pluging it in and using it right away. It will get fully charged fairly quick and the chances of a power issue during that time is REAL slim anyway.

Grab 'em up people, this won't last!

Just picked up another one in Oakdale, MN for $38.33 out the door (used my 10% rewards coupon). Don't know what I'll use it for but couldn't pass it up.

They've got about 3 or 4 more on the shelf...

Super HOT!

I'm really surprized these are still around! Just Froogle an 800VA UPS and you'll understand why. It's really a nice package too with all the cables you need and a USB cable to connect it to a PC. The software they supply is VERY nice! 🙂

I picked one up at a local BB to bring with me to a local LAN party that happens once a month here. The power there is notorious for cutting out if someone breaths on the homemade 220 to 110 converter box wrong. Heckuva deal.

I happened to be back in BB the other night and noticed that not only are these still in stock (in Worcester/Marlboro, MA) but also the shelf cards show the pricing good till end of January. So no need to worry about a price correction, only stock levels 🙂

Was at the Richfield, MN Best Buy on Sunday, and they had a bunch set up as an island with the $39.99 price posted. Just a FYI

Interesting, the BB near me hides them in the back and has NO indication they have them....you MUST ask for one. Also, on the store floor, they have APC and a couple other brands. The cheapest 800VA they had on display was $109!

HOT DEAL @ $39!

Anyone got any tips for not very tech savvy person on installing this software to a non-administrative privileges account? I can get it to work on the admin account, but the limited user account pops up some problem about install.msc or whatnot is missing.

Thanks

Shouldn't matter, the functionality should be the same. A benefit of having both, as I pointed out sometime in an earlier post, is that I can have both my Windows and UNIX (Solaris in my case) servers connected to it because the USB for the PC frees the serial port up for my 1U Sun Netra T1. 🙂 Find my earlier post for the *NIX software.

in stock in NJ -
great deal
my cyberpowers are all fine - and this one is half price
CyberPower Systems CyberPower 8-Outlet / 800VA / 450Watt / UPS with AVR
🙂

Mine's still hangin' tough. I finally got around to hooking up the USB cable but had either lost the software or it wasnt included in the box. I looked in the manual for the name of the software (it escapes me now) and then googled it. Found it on some other mfgr's (not dynex) website but with the same exact name of the software and downloaded it. Works like a champ. shows you estimated battery run time, watts drawn, battery capacity, etc.

Hey, I think I am (was) in the same boat with you. I cannot find the software
that came with this Dynex (if it really did). Could you please post/PM the link
for the one you downloaded. Thanks!

Here's the link to CyberPower's site

Just download their PowerPanel Personal Edition software from their support link.

I should probably grab one of these to go along with my new system. Is the deal still good? Also, if the rebate is instant, do they change taxes on the $89 price tag or the $39 AR price tag?

I saw them last week in couple stores with same price tag. pretty sure deal is still on.
My receipt from December said $39.99 each. No rebates mentioned anywhere on the receipt so you're taxed AR price unless they changed it.

In my case, the shelf price was $39.99 so no question about how much sales tax.
