The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a Washington, D.C., group that promotes preventive medicine and a vegan diet, unveiled a billboard Monday near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the advisory: "Warning: Hot dogs can wreck your health."

PSA - Meat is meat is meat. So on that level, our militant Vegan friends are every bit as full of bull as they usually are.

Having said that: The Nitrates (usually) used as preservatives in hot dogs really are not good for you.

Read the label, and buy the ones with no Nitrates.

I like the Hebrew National brand hot dogs. Do those have nitrates?

Well, honestly, look at what hot dogs are made of. There's more fat grams than protein in them and a shit ton of sodium and other preservatives. Nevertheless, there are times that I do appreciate a good LA style dog... with grilled onions/green bellpeppers... bacon wrapped, mayonaise... ketchup... OMG SO GOOD.

Any cured meat is pretty bad for you. As said above, it's primarily the nitrites that are harmful, but smoked meat is also harmful. I'd like to see them tax the shit out of bacon, and other cured swine so you nannies that enjoy tobacco legislation can appreciate a good ass fucking also.

hmm that looks good.

hot dogs are bad for you. thats why you don't eat them every day. but every now and then hell yeah.

I'd have to read the label. I do know that Hebrew National products are Kosher and 100% beef (no fillers, etc). I don't know if they use Nitrates, or not.

I buy Oscar Meyer "Angus" dogs. (black/gold label). It says 'No Nitrates/Nitrites' on the front of the package.

[Edit] - I jsut checked their website, and Oscar Meyer "Selects" also have no nitrates/nitrites.

I would say eating two packs of hotdogs a day is probably just as bad as smoking two packs of cigarettes. But I don't know anyone who does that.

Well there's your problem.

Yet they are delicious and those vegan hippies know it that's why they want their tofu crap to look like a hotdog still and have the artificial flavor to taste like it too.

I loled when I read this a couple days ago. Are they going to have warning pictures on packages of hotdogs now? Somebody please Photoshop that. 😀

Hmm, I wonder about Vienna Beef and Red Hot Chicago brands, as those are the only dogs I buy... in any case, a good all beef frank fixed up Chicago style is delicious!

It wouldn't be that big of a deal. I've never known anyone to quantify their bacon habit by calling it a "two pack a day" habit. Bring it on.
