I don't know how I got this lucky, but my girlfriend let me set up a 5.1 Polk Audio system at her apartment (I basically live there).

Left/Right: Monitor 60s floorstanding
Center: CS2
Rears: Monitor 30 bookshelf
Sub: Onkyo 320 Watt, 32hz

Reciever: Onkyo HT530, 7.1

It sounds GREAT so far. I was running it 3.1 for a while.

I just added the surrounds yesterday, and I have not really watched a movie with them yet. I have them on the floor behind the couch (hidden). Will that affect the surround sound much?

Oh, and it is all paired with a VIZIO 32".

I am trying to convince her to let me bring my Toshiba 42" over. 🙂

Yeah, that's not exactly ideal...

Not as big a deal since it's your surround speakers, but I imagine they'd be quite muffled back there. Can you take one out and try to put it in a normal position so you can determine the difference in how it sounds yourself?

Your SO won't like it, but you can make cheapie speaker stands out of threaded iron pipe and those little round plates with threaded bits on one side - they sell 'em at Home Depot. Not attractive, but it's hard to argue with the durability.

I.. don't want to push it too hard.. lol

I use pipe for speaker stands, I won't be laying pipe anywhere else for a while, see.

Paint it pink, she'll love it.

or at least angle the speakers on the floor...couldn't make it worse....might actually bounce off the ceiling/walls a little.

I was really short on space for my rears so I laid them on their backs on the floor. It's certainly not ideal but it provides some of the desired effect. Just make sure your speakers aren't rear ported.
