Have you ever tried quality ketchup? So many people I know only have used the cheap stuff that places like McDonalds put in packets (tomato - vinegar - salt, and nothing else.) A gormet ketchup full of visible spices can be very good. Food TV has run several episodes on gormet ketchups - and all those recepies are really good.Originally posted by: LAUST
Ketchup is nasty on dawgs, can't belive how many votes it has, I thought only 13 year olds liked that crap.
Chilli, cheese and relish are awesome... onion and mayo I like on burgers thoughOriginally posted by: Vadatajs
You're a freak!!!!!
Where's:
Chilli
Onions
Cheese
Relish
Mayonaise
???
As for the question: NO KETCHUP, ever. I'll send it back, rudely, if it does.

Ketchup is only good on a hot dog with relish. It is downright nasty with kraut or chili. I like a nice Chicago style dog (mustard, onions, sliced tomato, dill pickle spear, salt and pepper) or I like mustard, onions, and sweet cherry peppers (the kind you put on philly cheese steaks).

Well, thanks for the help. This answers my son's question. "Out of 100 people, how many do you think would say OK to ketchup on their hot dog?" Right now the poll says 66 people think it's OK, 34 people say no way.
I sent him an email with about 10 images and logos of hot dogs with mustard on them. I asked him to send me a picture of a hot dog with ketchup on it. He came up with three, which is more than I thought he'd be able to. He said in his search for the pictures, he came across a lot of info about this controversy. People in Chicago will shoot you for asking to put ketchup on a dog, while folks in PA slather it all over theirs. As was mentioned a couple times, younger people prefer ketchup, older ones mustard.
Now, on to the broiled or boiled embroilment...![]()

off the top of my head, you missed the poppy seed toasted bun, sport peppers, and celery salt. I think I forgot something as well. It's been a while since I had a chicago dog. but I don't remember there being ketchup on it.
