Trying to dig up any good links/news articles for these former "hot deals" for one of my classes.

Buy.com monitor fiasco, the one that led to the creation of the Hot Deals forum and the "Wounded Monitor Children" tag.

Dell/Western Digital 200GB HD for $22 - the double rebate fiasco.

Kmart Creative Nomad MP-3 Player price mistake.

I've already found some good links for the guy who was arrested at Best Buy after the GF4 price mistake.

Or how about the days of good Buy.com coupons, like their $50 off $50.
 
There was that big webhosting deal a while back, too good to be true, guy shut down, lots of people lost money.

And don't forget (oops, I forget the name) the place where you ordered stuff that was next to nothing after you got the rebates. I got a lot in the beginning, but then it got to be too big, and sure enough people got scammed in the end when they stopped paying the rebates. Why can't I remember the name????
 
I remember introducing one of the first hot deals way back when. It was a 13.6 Gig Maxtor HDD for $100 after rebate. Caused a lot of excitement.

I'm still using mine.

Anyone remember?

there, i remembered.

Edited to add the pet supplies sites that were giving away all sorts of junk "free $10 for first purchase" or whatever. I got all my Xmas gifts that year, pet calendars & books, etc. Great! Pets.com?
 
My personal favorite was Staples price matching nearly anyone's web price, and take a coupon off on top of it.

I actually felt guilty on some of those...

Heh, heh, me too. I'm relieved when I drive by Staples and see that they're still in business. Whew.

Yep, was concerned they'd go under like Value America or implode like Buy.com did.

Got my wife's wedding ring @ Value America for ~45% off😀

For sure! Got one for myself, and one for my inlaws. Their drive is going to be pulled out of mothballs to perform backup duty pretty soon. No too sure where mine finally ended up... 😕

Scarily enough, there is a possibility that Cyberwings, Tacidblue, Eryxma, Glexicon, etc (who knows how many) are all interconnected in some fashion. Too many coincidences and quite the same modus operandi.

Mine is in the third computer that I built and is still in service out in the Lab. 6 years old, I guess.
