or $399.99 for my first hard drive -- 5MB

(I still have the IBM PC I put it in --- that was $2200 with two (count 'em TWO) 5 1/4" floppies and no hard drive and screaming with an 8088 at 4.77mhz)
 
I remember our 25mhz 386 computer, 6mb ram, 40mb hard drive, 5.25" floppy, 3.5" floppy, 13" monitor...... $2500 back in 1991 it was I believe.

YIKES!
 
In 10 years ppl will be listing today's prices on the products saying:

7800GTX 512 -> $650 (omg, does Mario run on it?)
1GBx2 low latency DDR -> $250-300 (2GB? what is this? how can you live with less then 128GB?)
500GB HD -> $300 (what's a hard drive?)

dman you're a "glass half empty" type eh? :laugh:
 
When I bought my first computer RAM was about $65/meg. My first real job was in a graphics studio working on a Quadra 950 with 56 megs of RAM....that works out to $3640 JUST for the memory.

God, that was a great computer. I wish I could find one now, just to have one.

IBM pc- 4.7 Mhz 8086, 64K ram, low density floppy, mono graphics, 1 serial + 1 parallel port, keyboard, copy of DOS $2500.00

10 Megabyte Hard drive $10,000.00

Controller card for hard drive was around $450.00 , but included the cable 🙂

Don't remember how much for the monitor

Was working in an r&d gig at the time and we picked up about 15 of these babies, but only 2 or 3 had hard disks in them.

P.S. I think it took me a couple of months before I filled up my first floppy too. LOL

Heh.... I had a 25mhz 386 also....noticed one day the CPU was a 33mhz cpu.... so I desoldererd the 50mhz clock crystal and replaced it with a 66mhz one. Wall-la....386-33mhz. 🙂



 
1993, Packard bell DX2-50 with 8meg ram, 1.2gig HDD, a 4x cd-rom, and a 14" monitor for only 1999$ out the door..........
 
We had three Apollo workstaions that I did GIS/CAD work on in 1991. Then HP bough Apollo and the IT guys said we had to replace all the motherboards or something like that at a cost of over $3000 each.
