Hot deals are killing my wallet.

Ah... see I don't jump on hot deals so often... so my wallet is intact.

One of the hottest deals is to not buy stuff you don't need, because by the time you do need it it will be much cheaper.

Last week I had 700 in the bank and I told myself, start saving money so by the time all the new technology starts getting affordable you'll have enough for a totally kickass new system.

Somehow this morning I woke up with 300 in the bank

But how are you supposed to say no when the really hot ones come along?

Actually, my rule is, I don't jump on deals unless it is either something I need, anyway, or the deal is just so hot I can always cash out in a hurry. Two very recent examples:

A couple of weeks ago, Staples offered a 120 GB Maxtor drive for $59.94 after rebate. I don't need the drive, but when I found that Staples corporate hq directed stores that ran out of the 120 GB drives to substitute the 160 GB drive for the same price ($59.94) out the door, and to make it better, that purchase included another $30 mail in rebate, I called every Staples in my area and bought one for $35, including tax after rebate.

The drive is worth more than the $65 I paid, and a friend bought it from me for $100 a few days later. 🙂

i could've picked up 8 of the lite-on/NEC 8x DVD-R's for $70 OTD with $50 MIR... but alas I only picked up 2. This young padawon has much to learn

Bahh! Just because it's listed in hot deals doesn't mean it's a hot deal (unless there's a deal on the 200GB Seagate that I didn't notice)
A year ago, 50 cents a GB was a hot deal. These days, I'd say it takes 35 cents or less before it's truly a hot deal. example: Maxtor 160GB $35 after tax and rebate.

But, that's $35 I wouldn't have spent if I didn't frequent the hot deals forum. (then again, I could ebay it for $80 if I was hard up for the money)

edit: then again, when my coworkers find out how much I spent on what, they are always amazed and can't figure out how I find out about these deals 🙂
