More news: shortly after I sent that e-mail to mzi.com (a/k/a zones.com) last evening, I received yet another "Order Confirmation" e-mail from them. Ironically titled, though--in fact, this message indicated a change in my order status from "P" (In Process, in their first e-mail), from "B" (Back Order, in the second e-mail), to "C" (Cancelled). Oh well...
But it seems my e-mail to Customer Service, in response to their "product has been discontinued" message, was met with concern and attention. I got a call from someone (whose call-back number, oddly, was in their Technical Support department) who asked me to forward him that message so that his manager could see it and trace how it got out. Apparently several other people have complained of getting similar mesages. He further told me that the CSR whom I spoke with last night, the one who told me to "go elsewhere," apparently was the one who cancelled my order (as a result of which got that latest "Order Confirmation" message).
This gentleman assured me that all orders taken for the AIW Radeon card, even at $200, will be honored. They are expecting shipments from ATI on Nov. 6 and 15, in quantities sufficient (about 300) to cover the entire back-order queue (about 250). He noted that their cost for this product is about $250, but they will absorb the loss for the $200 orders. He reinstated my order at the previous price.
It is worth noting that the AIW Radeon does not appear on the web site today.
