Hey,

Just bought an IBM 1GB Microdrive for $185, this is my 3rd purchase from memorywizards, so far so good. I went to google and this is the best price around, I also checked on price comparison engines and this is the best price i found so far.
Here is the link:

Funny thing they beat out newegg and googlegear in price as well, thats something you dont see everyday.

Also, whats better compact flash or the Microdrive? I read different reviews and they are all mixed.

Some people don't like the "Moving parts" of a HD. I have yet to read anyone with a failure tough... considering how many are around I think you can assume to be about as safe as with a CF card. I have had CF cards go bad on me before. No big deal if you are not on vacation... but Ohhhh so hurtfull if you are!

I jumped on board when Dell had the 512 CF's for 90$. Bought 2 and now have 1 Gig of storage for my Cam.

Right now... I am not too proud being a German. I appologize for my country!
Politicians! Since when did they start to reflect the will of the people?
If we could take the avarice out of politics, the lawyers would no longer be interested in any political office...
Karsten, you are caught up in these events, as are we all.
Capitalism often is painful and is hopelessly broken.
Unfortunately, no one is able to come up with anything better, and egalitarianism remains elusive.

And, I have to correct you...Germany is the birthplace of thousands of great minds, ideas and invention - let alone an industrious people beyond compare. Lots of countries have ugly politicians. You have no need to apologize for them, any more than the Iraquis need to apologize for Saddam. I can think of lots of them, real close to home.

The IBM drives do fail, but I have no way to quantify how often especially in comparison to the compact flash. I can only say that if you read the forums at www.dpreview.com you can find people saying they have failed.

From what I've read, the Microdrives are great in terms of size, quality and speed but they cut your battery life in half or a third.

Yeah, I swore by my 340MB drive back a year ago when even 128MB cards were tough to get. But man did my battery get sucked dry quick. About 3 months ago I picked up a 128MB card cheap and the difference is night and day. My battery lasts EASY 2 to 3 times longer.

Great idea, but the power technology just isnt there yet.

In what kind of devices are you guys using the microdrive that it kills your batteries so bad? With MAHA 1600mah rechargeables (AA - 4 of them)I can easily get 125 full-res (3.3megapixel) pictures (40-50% with flash) on my Casio QV-3000 camera (which uses one of the early 340MB microdrives that were supposed to eat thru batteries).

Good price, bad deal. MD's have dropped in price maybe 100% over the last year while similarly sized CF cards have dropped 500%.

You can get a much more reliable 1gb Flash card for less than $225 at many online retailers. (the slow 1gb Sandisk was as little as 145 AFTER rebate a month ago) Order of faster write speeds: Lexar, Simpletech, Viking, Sandisk (this is a loose comparison) all but the Lexar should be able to be purchased for about $225. DEFINETLY worth the extra $. Speed is only a factor on the higher end DSLR camera bodies.

MyDigitalDiscount has a sale of the FASTEST 40x 1gb Lexar WA cards for 280
