I got a 20.5 for $59 and a 30.7 for $79. They had some tickets for a 45 gig for $109 but I didn't see any.

Which one is the best deal?

I feel like the 20.5 gig (which I just bought) is the only solidly hot deal among the three sized.

The other drives are 5400 rpm, not 7200. You can get the Quantum Fireball 7200 rpm 30 gig (one of the highest rated 30 gigs around) from Buy.com for $100, and I think it'd be worth the extra $20.

Still: This is a HOT HOT HOT deal on the 20 gigger!

Macro2, The 20.5 gig is 7200 RPM where as the 30.7 and 45 gig are both 5400 RPM.

Oops, MontyBurns post didn't appear when I was replying to Macro2's post.

I went back to the store in Frederick, MD and got a refund. They have 22 of the 20.5 gig drives in stock.

Thanks,

I already had one of the 20.5 giggers so I knew it was fast. I bought the 30.7 for pure storage but I'm wondering now because I don't know why someone needs all that storage when you can just burn CDs...
Still, the 5400s aren't that much slower are they? I don't play games. The thing has a 9.5 ms seek time and 2 meg of cache...
Again, thanks APE...we go to the same Sams BTW....

Has anyone bought the WD 20.5 gig hd in any of the Sam's Club in CA? I went to a local one but the drive was listed for $139 so I didn't bother picking it up.

The 20G one is the fastest among all three. Other two are 5400rpm model.

The Cleveland Sams has the 20 gig for $99.99 after the $40.00 rebate. Still a good price. I paid $200.00 after rebate for this baby many months
ago. Bummer.

Mohammad did you have Sam's scan the sku #294614, sometimes they don't update the correct prices on the pull tickets.

Yea, make sure you get them to scan in the sku to confirm the price. One of the 3 sam's I went to still displayed it at $139 but it scanned in at $99.

I believe the Sam's in Carrolton, TX at Beltline and Midway still has quite a few.

Awesome deal. I was looking for a WD drive to upgrade my 'rents computer. This is perfect. I picked mine up in Lincoln, Nebraska. Only 2 left last night.

Yo! The Sam's in Concord, CA (east of SF) had several yesterday. Nice deal.
Thanx. I'll repay the favor as soon...

Picked up two yesterday but have a question. Will WD honor the $30 sticker on the box? I will send in one rebate to Sam's and would like to send the other directly to WD but do not know if they will honor it. Anyone have any experiences with this in the past?

SoloKid, when you turn in the rebate for Sam's, they want all "on the box" rebates. Even so, WD wants the UPC code and you already sent that one to Sam's.

I need to clarify my question. Can I send in the rebate to Sam's for drive A (only) and include all that they want for it. Then for drive B send in the on-the-box rebate to WD? The reason I am asking is that even though WD has run rebate promo's at Sam's before that did not use the Sam's rebate flyer (the rebate went directly to WD) their web site does not list Sam's as a retailer in the current round of rebates. I know that I cannot get both the Sam's rebate and the Wd rebate for the same drive.

mpatc, You can get both rebates.:D Send in Sam's $40 rebate on drive "A", Send in the $30 rebate to Western Digital on drive "B" You just can't get both rebates on one drive as you already know.

OKay folks..here is the deal with Staples

After much round robin that I won't go into..Staples online now DOES PRICE MATCH SAM's irregardless of anything you have been told previously by anyone at Staples. They supposedly have all been now put on notice that they price match Sam's...ahhh..the power of information and the telephone :)

Anyway, I don't have time to try the PM with rebate but will try later. Give it a whirl and see what happens. I would appreciate it if anyone who comes up with the IM number for the 20 gig would post it. That is the one I want to try.
