Hello all,
Ran into this (what I think is a) hot deal at Outpost.

Kingston 1GB PC3200 400MHz 2-64x64 HyperX DDR Memory 184Pin - Lifetime Warranty
Model #KHX3200K2/1GR

$159.99 before the $20 rebate. It MUST be purchased between 1/14 and 1/18.

based on the title and subtitle, I was expecting a deal to be paid to buy 1GB of ram

Maybe state the price and rebate in the title?

Is this 2 sticks or one? I'm looking for a single stick. The Fry's ad in Fryday's paper makes it seem like single stick.

I am so wishing I could find a hot deal on a single 1gb pc3200. I anticipate the Fry's ad weekly and there hasn't been one yet. I constantly read the forums and none yet. Unless, of course, I am missing it.

Hmm, the rebate might be an error on Outpost's part.

The model number they offer is #KHX3200K2/1GR.

The two acceptable model numbers on the rebate are KHX3200AK2/1G, KHX3200AK2/1GR. The rebate also says 'Kingston Value RAM', while the offer is HyperX. Still, $160 for CAS 2 ain't bad.

My Fry's ad definitely says 2x512 on the bottom (small print, but it does say it).

I got in on that Mushkin deal a week or two ago, but I'm liking this deal slightly better - good thing RAM prices don't drop too quickly.

Or this whole rebate business could be invalid because the model # on the rebate form is KHX3200AK2/1G(R), while the model number on Outpost's site is KHX3200K2/1GR. The A is missing! @_@

Think I'll call them and figure this out. (but because I'm lazy, who knows when that'll be.)

[/b]My Fry's ad definitely says 2x512 on the bottom (small print, but it does say it).

Ahhh, then Fry's does indeed run different ads. Mine says "1Gb PC3200 Kingston HyperX DDR Memory; -184 Pin DIMM; -speed 400MHz; -Liftetime Warranty; $179.99 before $20 MIR." When I saw this, it led me to believe it was single stick but when I looked up 3746176 on Outpost it said 2 sticks. Normally from what I've seen, Fry's will spell out 2x512mb or 2 DIMMs. I guess it could be said that I am reading it wrong because of DDR and that automatically means 2 DIMMs, but I did not make that assumption.

I'm sure it's still a good deal since it was at least $50 more on the Egg when I looked. I am trying to plan for later and get 1 gig stick now and a 512 later for 2gb total. Unless that is a bad idea. As you can see on my rig I have a 512mb el cheapo stick in there now. I believe a PQI stick that Fry's normally has for 80 bucks. I was going for cost, not speed when I built the box.

Can anyone confirm that they will send the HyperX model or the value one? Or can I just go to Fry's and show them the link of this ram at Outpost ?

It's definitely Hyper X but it probably won't be the K2/1G they say on the site. It will most likely be AK2/1GR

Memory prices to drop at least 30%.

Memory prices have been droping for a few months now, which has been forcasted in the second half of 2004. But don't kid yourself, there will always be short sighted people which only see the current prices, like during the peak in the middle of 2004, some people here were jumping on 512MB PC3200 for $90 and thinking it's a good deal, because the "regular price" is $129 (or so they were led to believe). So prices did come down to $60 / 512MB, but according to industry experts (see article) prices are going to come down by 30-50% by the middle of the year, at least.

Why buy now, if in a 2-3 months you'll be able to buy 1GB for $75 or less.

I called Outpost and the dude said that they were working on figuring out the error, but I called probably 5+ hours ago and it doesn't look like they've done anything. Not a high-priority fix I guess.

I picked up 2 of the 512 Mushkin sticks Fry's/Outpost had on sale w/ rebate a while ago (this deal)
and I'm wondering, should I sell those on eBay and go hop on this deal or should I just be content with my Mushkins? (If they're K2/1G, should I do/not do it? If they're AK2/1GR, should I do/not do it?)

thanks,
ryan

Hmm, could there be any left?

I just picked up a pair! :)

All the numbers seemed to match up to the Kingston website. One little discrepancy:

Kingston site: KRX3200AK2/1G
Outpost: KHX3200AK2/1GR

I HOPE that this "R" must mean registered and the "H" means Hyper in the realm of the outpost.com web content supervisors?

If this is the same stuff as THIS, you'd be a fool not to buy. :D

No, it doesn't

Meh, thats just for gaming. I would upgrade to 2G since i often have pshop, illustrator, powerpoint, matlab, and TV all going at one time when preparing talks. :D Surely, there is no performance hit there, eh?
