<< Wow didn't know we're this* hi-tech already.. Sounds like fun.. :D >>

Actually, we were *this* hi-tech a couple of years ago....the older version of these were being cleared out of OfficeMax last year for next to nothing. They'd been around so long that they didn't even have Win2k drivers.

What if you loose, burn, etc a finger. You can't get to your MP3's or pron?

I believe that you can still log-on with a password, the point is to make is easier / faster than username / password combo. Just a fingerprint.

You are right - this technology has been around for years.

For you privacy freaks, just FYI.... BioMetrics do not store your fingerprint, rather they make an encrypted mathematical formula on the layout of your finger, so no one can get a picture or copy of your print.

I looked on ZDNet and it is the highest rated unit and the most accurate of all those tested.

I bought the original U are U when they first came out. While the product worked okay, the customer support was always just plain awful! Also, last week I called to find out when a WinXP driver would be released for the original version. I was told that I would have to purchase it for $20 even though it's the same driver/software that the new model uses! If anyone does buy one of these I would appreciate if they could send me a copy of the driver disc. I'll reimburse for shipping.

I ordered 3 of them, so depending on the licensing, I will get you a copy, especially if it is the drivers.

If you burn a finger, your fingerprint may be faint or disappear from the outermost layers of your skin, but surely enough, when the skin grows back, your fingerprint comes back. If you lose your finger, you can still take that finger (assuming you picked up the digit you lost) and use it unless the sensor senses for bodyheat.

I'm sorry but I threw it out last night. It had freezer burn, and it was making the ice cream taste funny.

Lewd comment mode on:

If you are a man, you could always use your ""Middle"" finger. If it gets severed, you would not want to live anyways. Plus, hiding your porn would not mean much then anyways ;)

Lewd comment mode off.

Editor of PC Magazine was just raving about this in the latest issue. Said you could configure it to plug in your password at all the various websites that require one---your fingerprint, in essence, turns on a macro that types the (encrypted) password. Sounds like a pretty secure way to do it.

yeah... I just watched the techtv video on this thing (link from digital personas site) and it looked sweet. I think I could have a few different "users" under xp with different virtual desktops and one could be just html programs, one could be graphic programs, etc.

Ordered one and it came out to about $60 even after shipping.

I remember back in college we had to do presentations is a class. A creepy 49 year old guy who always wore velcro shoes and the same clothes gave his demonstration using one of these things. Made me shudder to think what he had on his PC that he needed to keep secure. :)

I remember reading about this online somewhere..... I remember 2 problems.

1: Failure of recognizing your fingerprint 4-7%

and the big one

2: Misreading of fingerprint 1-3% (but increases with more IDs on file).

1-3%? That's pretty bad for a hi-tech device. Amazing how a userID and Password are far superior.

Hehe, but given those numbers, you mistype your username / password that much too, so not losing much. If it misreads, you just stick your finger back on. Not like you have to reboot or anything.

can you experts do some research on this website n see if this is legit?? I'm starting to suspect that this "ip address" site could be fake..
