I'm not understanding what is still wrong with the post, is it the gunbroker/guns america url's?
was the threadcrapping/immature remarks and remarks about circumvention w/ a followup of a pointed jab at an AT mod..so it was locked..at least that's how I perceived it to go down..<edit>typo

More children drown in 5 gallon buckets than are killed by guns.

I want a ban on hot deals listing 5 gallon buckets:|

Seriously though, any weapons sold by Oshman's are sold according to the letter of the law (I've bought a handgun from them in the past)

Strangely enough, I'm in the market for a new handgun & am going to call my local Oshman's to see if they have a 10 mm Glock I've been looking @. I also use a local FFL dealer that charges me a whopping $15 for his transfer fee.

I think it's unfortunate the mods have decided to lock the thread, I'd always perceived AT as being a bit more in line with our constitution/state laws, especially concerning firearms.

Perhaps there should be a ban/lock on all firearms threads

It's back, but it's locked...

yes.. :sigh;<edit> We changed our minds about how to handle xxxxxx' stupidity. The firearms thread is locked, but we decided to give it one more chance if someone posts another legitimate deal. If the same thing happens, we will ban such deals.

Mod

Could the mods just delete the posts and give the violators a 2 week or longer vacation for posting immature requests and such in hot deal threads concerning deals on firearms thru legit places.

They're legit too. I've used both sites in the past...

Somebody posted along the lines of wanting to buy a gun from any member because he didn't want to sign up for gunsamerica or gunbroker, then the mod posted a valid reply to that. In which someone down the line mistook the whole reply the mod typed and accused the mod of making up rules.

Anyone who purchases a gun at retail has to go through whatever background checks/waiting period/etc applies in their state, it is up to the store to worry about legal issues. We allow hot deals with cars, you have to be 18 to enter a contract, 16 to drive, why should guns be any different?

I fully support not allowing it in the FS/FT forums, but Hot Deals amounts to one person telling another "Hey XYZ Retail store has ABC on sale for $199.99, that's a pretty good price."

There is absolutely no reason that firearms (or any other legal product) should be excluded from the Hot Deals forum UNLESS there is a general ban on it. We allow discussion of guns, alcohol, tobacco, etc. in Off Topic and P&N. Pornography, however, is not allowed and is excluded (rightfully so) from the Hot Deals forum.

The thing I learned (the hard way) about Private forums is that those in charge of running it can allow or disallow any topic subject they want and what you think about that really doesn't matter. You may act like it does but it really doesn't.

Ya, that was my post...now I know to post here. I tried to find a link to PM the moderator, but it is not easily found. So anyways, looks like the thread is still locked....

You've been told over and over exactly how to send a PM to the moderator by Scrap Silicon, Oldsmoboat and me. Oldsmoboat even gave you a link to the private message form that is generated when you follow the instruction I sent you. I don't know what else to tell you.

Yes, you are correct. And the fact that I looked for a way to PM the moderator before posting still stands true. Now that I stated in both forums the fact that I could not find a way to PM the mods, as a explination for my posting in Hot Deals, and have been kindly shown how to PM the mods, there is really no need for further discusion on the topic.

The mods aren't around 24/7.

Honestly, there aren't that many members that are going to go buy a gun from Oshman's during this deal hopefully they realize that they can get better prices (better 100% legal prices BTW) @ a DFW area gun show. There's a guy everyone calls Doc (he's a dentist/oral surgeon) who seems to have made it his life's work to sell reasonable priced guns in the Metro area, and has a huge display @ the bigger shows.

I paid $400+ tax for my standard Glocks, Oshman's price is $499 during this sale...

BTW, this deal is valid till the 26th (I live in DFW area & called to see what they had in stock, 9mm, 40 cal, & 45's in the Glock models).

Now you see it , now you don't...

Thread in Hot deals is unlocked again. This is like a soap opera. Wonder if everyone can behave this time. Ah, nope. First post is already not about the deal.

I'm not quite sure how I stand on this since the sale of firearms is legal. On the other hand, so is the sales of tobacco and that is not allowed in Hot Deals. I think that my stance is that there are plenty of items to post in Hot Deals without going into the sales of firearms.

I also think that I might have felt differently if the deleted thread had actually been discussing the sale but it didn't seem like they were.

edited to correct my bad in the number of deaths: Maybe as long as we have 29,000+ people in this country die each year from firearms we could just opt not to showcase gun deals. It won't bother me either way. It will bother me if just one person buys a weapon from a post here and uses it to kill someone.

BTW - I am a firearm owner.

Well, what about tobacco/cigarettes? How many people die, or contract some form of cancer every year due to smoking? Would it bother you just as much, if someone buys a cig. from someone, and smokes it, and 20 years later, dies because of it? Is there any difference, really?

(My personal take on it - I've had a long-standing rule, of never buying tobacco for anyone, irregardless of any associated legal issues involved. I don't want to be responsible for murder or contributory homicide. I have had to violate that rule however, in a very small number of cases, where to do otherwise would have caused more immediate harm than good in those particular situations.)

Likewise, what about car deals and vehicular homicides? Should car deals be banned in ATHD, or other AT forums, because of the potential to kill?
