This is a pretty good deal for top quality cdr media given Canadian pricing.

London Drugs has Kodak Ultima Golds 10pk box with jewel cases for CAD $9.99 which is a great price. The downer is that London Drugs are now charging the new cdr tax that has come into effect in Canada which comes to some 21 cents per cdr. So, the total cost would be 12.09 or so for the box.

However, there is a workaround.

Get a London Drugs flyer if you can (don't really have to) and hit Staples which also carry the Kodak Ultima Golds. Get them to pricematch it as Staples hasn't been charging the cdr levy just yet.

Kodak Ultima Golds is recognized as being some of the very best media ever made.

The reason why they are being blown out is because Kodak (from what i've heard) is slowing down or ceasing production of them because they are too expensive to manufacture. Rather, Kodak wants all of us to buy their new offering: the Ultima Silver/Gold instead. Well, this is a great opportunity to pick up real, real nice media ... even just to say to people that you have some of the best.

In any case, this is super pricing for Canadians starved for a good cdr deal.

LD had a rad boxing week deal with 25cd spindles of the kodak gold+silvers for $15. I grabbed 200 cds worth.

I stocked up on kodak silvers back when they were $10 a box at staples.

Kodaks rock.

Yah, I did the same thing although I only stocked on up on 2 25pk spindles. I'm smacking myself over the head on that one. Should have bought more. Oh well, but for top of the line media this is a pretty darn good deal all things considered.

Especially since the cdr tax levy will make cdr buying in Canada very, very painful compared to the States.

Where I am (in BC) I have trouble selling my stock of Kodak Silvers (works up to 16X) for $1.00 each..... They are individually wrapped in jewled cases (basically boxes of 10's). I though it is a reasonable price considering taxes and levy. Oh well.

Shouldn't the levy cost be incoporated into the total cost. LD should not advertise a $9.99 then add the levey on top of that at point of purchase.

IceMage, that's a decent price for those media you have there. Unfortunately, the "average" consumer really has no clue with regards to media quality vis a vis to price. I'm talking about the masses of people who *shudder* shop at Futureshop and places like those buying GigaStorage cdrs and wondering why they they have such high failure rates with cheap generic media.

I go to Staples once in awhile to see what's new and I always check out the media isle and I always encounter other people giving the media the once over. They have no clue. The do things like pick up the generic 50pk spindle for 50 bucks where they could have picked up 2x25 Kodak Silver/Gold cdrs for 25 bucks each to make the same price but much, much better in quality and reliability. I just cringe and bite my tongue.
