I am currently running a 9800 Pro in my Dell 4550 and have never had a problem. I only have one hard disk but two optical drives and several USB devices.

At first I didn't see any markings on mine that would say it had been used before. After the posts about this writting, I noticed it looks as if something was scrapped off of the top of my power connector (very faint scratches). It looks like a sticker was removed and there is the writting next to it in goldish colored ink. That made me think maybe this was a refurb, but if this is standard maybe this is just markings from the manufacturing process. Anyone else have an ATI sticker on theirs next to the purple power connector that partially covers an electronic part? It looks as if the sticker wasn't made for this board. The serial number sticker on back does the same thing.

RCraig

the sticker situation is the same for me to, but it has been on numerous othe items i have purchase brand new, so i wouldn't worry about them.

Here is a pic of my card, notice the gold/silver writing in the upper right, just behind the power plug, that is what i am talking about. maybe others can verify this.... :)

also, what is that little yellow connector for? it looks like a m/b sound connector...

If your system is not fast enough it will decrease the performance of the video card, and at high resolution, ram use increases and if you use the page file you take a performance hit as well.

thanks...so how do you know the info? from task manager? or the ati program?

also, are you saying that once you start increasing RAM usage, you start using your page file too?

thanks.

task mananger. if you go over your actual amount of physical ram, only place it can go is the pagefile...

I think they are about the same! I'm pretty sure somebody posted in this thread here that at idle the XT took less power but during usage they are about the same due to the less efficient memory on the 9800 Pro.

good to know...so when do you know that you are having power issues? random lockups, shutdowns, artifacting? what else?

the ati rep wouldn't give me the actual wattage numbers...but did say the card should be equal to a 9800pro since the vpu is a little hotter, but the memory is a little cooler. my case temp still went up though...

I was looking at your pic there and it made me wonder if these didn't run into some manufacturing glitch and have to be checked individually to pass. Just a thought but I have worked in places were a problem caused up to have to go and check every one produced.

<edit> that gold connector does look out of place on a graphic card!

I really wish I would get an email confirmation!

if that was the case, ati really took a hit on these cards if they had to double the work... too bad for them but good for us :)

When Fedex delivered the card, did you have to sign it, or did they just leave it on the doorstep? (Just wondering since I may not be home to sign for it)

I believe that yellow connector is for the VIVO feature- to be connected to the AUX connection to your mobo. Can't remember where I read that... but pretty sure thats what it is.

i would assume they are all like this, i doubt ati is going to take the time to pull crime stats and demographics on the places where they send stuff. plus it would be more up to the driver of fedex, because they know the hood they are working in and if they leave it there and it gets jacked, fedex pays ati back for it

Got mine today. :)

Decent o/c, better than my terrible 6800 ultra anyway.

I'm at 558/585 and it seems very stable, tested using ATi Tool, and CS:Source.

This is quite a bit faster than my 6800u in source which I'm really happy about, can't wait to try out battlefield2! Thanks OP, even though I saw this at FW originally.

Damn, that's not what I wanted to hear! I ordered on 8/12 at 12:30pm EST. I've been checking my email account and refreshing the FedEx page with the order # trick in it about every 5 minutes every day this week. Guess I can cool my jets for a little bit, huh?

Eff.

Ordered on the 5th and I got it delivered yesterday the 18th. Fedex left it at the doorstep with no signature required.

Now if only my RMA'ed Motherboard would get here but that isn't going to happen until Monday :(
