Wow, this looks better than the Panasonic deal (though I'm not sure how the brand stacks up). It's got digital output AND dolby decoder.

Amazon stock is running out. Only 1 left. More on the way they claim. You should be able to use the Amazon $20 off coupon for electronics making it even cheaper.

I dont want to ruin the thread, but we sell these at wal-mart, and the brand is Sh!t. I've returned probably 300 of these over the course of 6 months. All the model numbers have problems. (AD-1000, 500, 800, and 1100) They have shotty electronics, and I have seen MANY of them come back defective, so just be careful🙂 Jim

Apex: Crappy design, cheap electronics, inexpensive retail.

Apex became famous because they were the first to release
a DVD player with the "secret" menu that allowed you to deactivate
Macrovision and region limits. If it weren't for that, you would
not hear people trumpeting them now...Well, except for the fact
that similar hacks "somehow" keep leaking out to the world about
their newer players...

The only reason I bought an Apex unit (from Walmart) was because it was cheap and the only hackable unit easily obtainable. All in all, I'm happy with mine.
Quality control is suspect, so some have had to buy & return until they got one that worked fine.

I've heard bad things about the AD-800s audio output (skips and/or loud tweaking noises), but they might have fixed those problems by now.

If you want a cheap hackable unit that'll play anything, I'd
recommend the Sampo DVE611 over any of the Apex units. It's hackable
to turn off macrovision and make region free, it's about the same
price, and it's made a bit better. It's not super high quality, either,
but a bit better...
