My 50-pack was Lead Data also. These have worked fine so far at 1x in my DVR-105 w/ 1.30 firmware.

I have burned a 25 pack, a 50 pack and now working through a second 50 pack with my a05 using hacked firmware. Disks were Lead Data and burned at 2x w/ no coasters.

Bought 2 of the 50 for $39.99 but salesman won't let me use the $5.00 coupon. Still great deal though.

They were Sony. The trick is to look on the side on side of DVD-R. If it has a gooey or uneven side on the DVD-R, then it's LD. If the side is smooth, then they're Sony.

I've burned about 50 lead data disks with zero problem. Very compatible results with standalone DVD players. I burn at 2X speed with the hacked Pioneer firmware. I purposely abused a couple of these disks and they stand up very well. They are darn hard to break in half. I bent one over and it snapped right back. I burned this disk and it worked fine. I'm not saying lead data DVD-R will always be high quality cheaper disks, but right now they are an absolute steal, especially if you get 2X speed. Some lead data are Sony disks and these burn at 2X without firmware update.

I bought these (Lead Datas from PCClub) when I first got my Cendyne/Pioneer burner. While they work fine for data and movies on my PCs, I have yet to find a standalone (other than my old Pioneer DVD/LD player) that will play them without problems. Some players won't even recognize the disc while others will stutter and eventually stop playing.

I've found that Princos seem to work well in virtually every player, and they're readliy available for $86 per 100 (free shipping) from Blank CD-CDR.

I picked up 2 but I was denied the use of the coupon for $5 :(. lexan97, thanks for the info about looking at the side. There were some that were smooth and others that looked like too much glue was used. I haven't done an ADVDinfo on it yet to determine the manufacturer.

Off topic: At the store I went to they had boxed 52x Lite-On's for $24. I don't see this deal on their web site ($56 for OEM) or their flier so maybe it was a pricing error...

Got some from the Woodland Hills, Ca store and they burn fine @ 2x with my DVR-104 using Nero and DVD Instant Copy.

Got 2 packs and used the $5.00 off coupon. $79 and change for 100.. sweet deal for 2x media

just picked some up in san diego, still $40. i did check the side to see if they were messy and gluey or clean, and only two clean ones out of the whole bunch. took it home to check and see if they were sony's, but dvdinfo said they were LD. oh well, not complaining, cuz just got my new A05 in and promptly flashed the firmware, burned at 2X no problem, plays just fine.

You are not alone. Other people at VCDhelp.com are also having good success. Maybe his problem is the settings he is using to burn the DVD movie. I use NERO (newer version) and I choose DVD Video as the format and in the settings "turn everything off, and select ISO Level 1. Otherwise you'll end up with a DVD that'll play on a PC, but not on a dedicated player." Now granted my finished DVD movies don't have real good compatibility with computer DVD drives (except the burner, of course), but this doesn't bother me as I only watch DVD on TV and want maximum compatibility with standalone players. I've experimented with other settings but when I change anything, compatibility with standalone players goes down.

By the way, I heard a rumor that the DVD+R camp charges more of a "royalty" when manufacturing DVD+ disks, so if this is true, DVD+R will very rarely be as inexpensive as DVD-R media.

Just went through all 150 disks, 148 2x Sony disks and only 2 1x Lead Data disks.
My lucky day...
