With all the 2x1gig deals going i thought I would post this

Outpost has Patriots DDR2 4GB PC6400 kit (5-5-5-12) for 225 with no rebates (newegg has it for 315 with a $40 rebate putting it at 275).

I have no idea how well it overclocks but 225 for 4gigs of pc 6400 with reasonable timings seems like a good deal.

I'm happy, considering I just bought a 2 gig kit for $85 😀

Not a bad deal at all. Patriot is good stuff.

With the evolution of Vista, 2x2GB kits are coming fast and furious. I'd expect to see the price continue to sink.

yeah...a budy says that his vista uses every bit of his 2 gigs of ram 🙁

Well, Vista will use "every bit" no matter how many gigs of RAM you have. The SuperFetch sucks the gigs down for cache. But it is very intelligent and Vista releases the RAM as applications / games need it.

Likely your friend doesn't understand the way Vista "uses" RAM; It isn't comparable to XP and previous Windows versions.

Yep. It's all a state of mind. "OMG all my RAM is gone!"

I have 8 gigs and I would disappointed to see it going to waste; Thus I'm glad that Vista's SuperFetch keeps it all filled up when I'm not super-tasking it.

Why would you want an operating system that doesn't use the RAM you install? Doesn't that sound counterproductive?

Thx

Yeah, that CPU has the multiplier you need to use 1:1 to hit exactly 3.2GHz.

Running 1:1 at 3.2GHz the RAM will run at exactly DDR2-800

i've been debating getting one of these C2D 6420. Kenton states that 1:1 3.2ghz at ddr2-800. Kenton i've read that there is a hole in the clock between 376-420 .. if that is true than you can't do the above using 1600fsb 400x8 giving you the 3.2ghz and 1:1 at ddr2-800.

however, you could do 1700fsb at 425x8 giving you 3.4ghz at 1:1 ddr2-850.. so the question is will these modules run smooth at 850mhz? 5-5-5-12 at T1?

thanks for any additional input
