Based on articles in DigiTimes...much lower. 256 Mb sticks are currently under $3 each on the spot market.
December 2001, I paid $30 each for sticks of 256 Mb PC2100 Crucial w/free shipping.

That is for 256 Megabit memory chip, you cannot make a 256 Megabyte DIMM for $3 with that. It's just one of the small black memory chips on a PCB memory stick. Each 256 Megabit memory chip would only 32 Megabytes of memory, and you have to take manufacturing cost, PCB cost, and the cost of a few transistors on the stick into account. Considering you need 8 of them to make a 256 MB Dimm it would cost at least $35 for them to make it and make a small profit.

Can anyone confirm this?

Any Crucial vs. Samsung (or vs. other similarly priced) input? I hear Kingston DDR is a good performer now?
Crucial PC2700 is a little cheaper than Samsung, but the opposite for PC3200.

Also want to confirm, one 512MB isn't slower, or overclock's just as well as two 256's?

BTW, I'll probably be using an 845PE (or possibly nforce2?).

Prices are now going back up. $82 for the PC2700. I think we saw bottom, and DRAMExchange seems to agree...
