While I highly recommend the Audigy 2 for anyone looking for a top-of-the-line sound card, the Audigy 1 has been extremely stable for me in three systems I've put it in. I don't know where these widespread reports of incompatibility are. Perhaps you could provide a link?

well i just went up to OD in my town of Thomasville, (Southwest) GA

they were out, but the price that was on the shelf was the $69 price.
i mentioned to the manager about the discontinued price. i dont know if it was just my store or what or if he was bsing me, but the told me they never do stuff like that (i.e. half off b/c of a new model) because office depot gets all of there stuff from a manufacturer in tampa, fl and the ones they dont sell (after a new product line comes out) they can send back and get the majority of their money back.

Audigy 2 has better analog output and an independent (rather than shared) digital connector which is useful if you want to hook up both analog and digital at the same time and do not have an add-on bracket. Audigy 1 can use the Audigy 2 drivers and applications. I submit this deal is not warm, but is indeed hot if you can wrangle it.

Good deal. I snagged one for $24.04 and have been playing around with it. Right now, I think my old Santa Cruz might have sounded a little better but I have had some gaming issues with the Santa Cruz and wanted to try out the Audigy 1.
