The projectors do not suffer from the rainbow effect.

It is not the projector that suffers from rainbow effect - it is the people that are watching it :)
RichardCC is correct that if somebody is sensitive to the rainbows this projector may not be for him since it has slower (2x) color wheel.
Newer 4805 will have 4x color wheel and rainbows on 4x wheels are much less distracting than on 2x color wheels (for rainbow sensitive people of course my wife doesn't notices rainbows even on 2x).

Dang that's cheap! (BTW, I have the 50" Samsung DLP rear projector, and only saw the rainbow effect once for a split second, that's in over 3 months of watching the set. I was worried before I bought it because of all the neg. comments about it, but for me it has turned out to be a non-issue.)

Remember Costco has very good return policy if you are affected by the rainbow effect.

HOT HOT HOT!

THIS IS THE BEST PROJECTOR FOR THE PRICE. I've got the Costco's Pioneer home theater system $450 and the image is HOT! And with 76" screen..... you can't beat that! I am feel bad now that I brought it so soon even with the 5 year warranty on my unit cuz COSTCO is (LIKE) lifetime!

I have read the Infocus 4800 is almost the same thing as the Infocus X1 with the X1 being a couple hundreds less.

doesn't X1 only support up to 800x600?

While this supports up to 1024x768.

I think that's where the difference in price comes.

They both run the same native resolution (800x600), and will accept a 1024x768 or 1080i signal with compression. In fact, comparing them side by side, I'm having difficulty coming up with any differences. Anyone?

BTW, the last time I was at Sams Club they had a similar deal on a similar (I didn't look too closely since I wasn't in the market) projector.

As far as I know, this projector is identical to the X1 except the firmware is different. They both have the same native SVGA resolution.

Don't believe the rainbow scare. While I occasionally saw rainbows when I first got my X1 -- mainly because the overblown hype had me searching for them -- the last few months I can't remember seeing one rainbow. Most of the people who complain about rainbows are the people who only viewed the projector for a short time, searched for and saw rainbows, declared themselves "rainbow prone," and brought the projector back. For some reason these people thought that if they saw one rainbow, they were in bad shape. The fact is everyone sees them occasionally, but they are so fleeting, split seconds literally, that most non-neurotic people just don't care or obsess about them. And most people, like me, who saw them at first, adjusted and see them less and less. My point is the whole rainbow thing has been started by a very small minority who have viewed DLP projectors for an exceedingly short time period. This hysteria has been fanned by plasma TV salesman who would rather sell you a $10,000 plasma than a $1000 projector.

They are identicle X1 & 4800 dont waste your money if you can get the X1 get it. Sanyo and Pioneer make an $1800 projector both sold on newegg that is the next best buy you can get! I forget the model numbers but they are also a bargain for the price. More inputs, true 720P, widscreen etc.

4800 and x1 differs only in firmware. 4800 firmware is optimized for home theater instead of presentations...otherwise identical. there are apparently hacked firmwares to convert x1 to HT optimzed 48000 firmware.

Very nice, Apex.

I chuckled out loud when I looked at it. I can't think of a better way to explain it, either.

apex, that's the first time I ever got what people were complaining about.
thanks!

I'm a lucky non-rainbow viewer.
(I was looking for some color band across the image all this time, though, ha!)

loving the X1 to death.

I've had it display a higher resolution than 1024x768 with compression.
I forgot I had my monitor at 1280x1024, but it showed up (not looking too pretty, mind you) on the projector.

If it had DVI or componet inputs, might be worth getting. Anyone know of any cheap ways to convert DVI or component to RGB??
If a cheap way exists, how well does the conversion work?

Thanks for the post
