NOTE: ABS HAS A LOT OF BAD RATINGS WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SUPPORT FOR THEIR COMPUTER LINE. This has thrown their RR rating for a curve.

That's pretty cool. 1 question, can Windows Media Player directly encode WMA's onto a SmartMedia card that's been inserted in this reader?

No offense but kinda pricey for what you get... Or are most readers not able to do both CF & SM?

I don't see why not. These readers have drivers that make the device look like a removable floppy drive. My buddy has one for Compact Flash. He carries around a copy of his website on it.

This is the first time I have seen a reader that handles both CF and Smart Media. You get can get a simple CF reader for $20 as you can do the same for a Smart Media Reader.

This device just does both. That way you don't have to worry about what transferring images. You'll have a device that can do both.

From the product description at the ABS link:

* Please note that this product will NOT work in systems running Win95 or NT.

I assume this is because of the difficulty Win95 has with USB devices. I would also assume it will work ok with Win98.

Microtech makes one that handles both SM and CF Type 1&2. Works under Win98 & 2k. Outpost sells it (#40798) for $44.95 plus shipping. If you have the Amer. Greetings Flooz than it would be free.

Of course it doesn't work on NT or 95. Those operating systems don't support USB.

Well, not bad, but I wouldn't be happy with just win2k support.

I did a quick search and the first result I came up with was
smart & flash & microdrive at a yahoo shop for $30. According to the website it
"Support Win TM 98, Win TM ME, Win TM 2000, MAC O/S"

Having just got an Olympus 2100 I'm too broke to get more
accessories. Tho I think an external battery pack may be
on order come next month.
