This seems to be a really hot deal. One question though, are you addressing the rebate to Mindspring (as written on the back of the rebate form) or to Handspring as it should be?

I lied, one more question... If I get this from Amazon, would I be able to return it to CompUSA? Or do the UPC's/serial #'s make it impossible??

SamSoccer7:

There's no reason to address this to Handspring, as they're not the ones handling the rebate, it's a CompUSA deal as far as I know. There's still some controversy around it, but I think it's a Mindspring Rebate center, that has nothing to do with the now non-existant ISP (which was a darn fine one).

As for returns, how would you do that? To return something to CompUSA, you need a receipt from there. If you mean that you bought one from CompUSA, and another from Amazon, and returned the one from Amazon to CompUSA w/ the CompUSA receipt, no, it makes absolutely no difference. But be prepared that they may hit you with the 15% restocking fee for opened items.

I went to CompUSA in Redondo Beach yesterday, and asked the workers if they could locate the rebate for me. They searched around for about 30 minutes, and called a few places before telling me that the new rebate is supposed to be included in the Omnisky modem box. I then told them that I saw a scanned rebate online, and so they brought out an email that some upper management CompUSA officials mailed to all their locations.

Its said something like :

"There was a misprint on rebate #21(or some number) dated 1/14/00. Please remove these rebates from the shelves, and direct the customers to the new rebate that will be included in the omnisky box."

I dont know if this helps because we still dont know if they will honor the misprinted coupons. I do believe however that CompUSA believes the coupon is misprinted.

I couldnt get the original rebate because the stores were instructed to remove them from the shelves. If anyone has an extra old rebate form, I would appreciate it if you could either give one to me or photocopy one for me. Please private message me.

Thanks

Thanks Spidey CU. The reason I was asking is because I got an Amazon gift certificate for Christmas, and if I used it to buy the Prism from Amazon and return it to CompUSA with the original receipt. THEN, take a copy of that CompUSA receipt and using the UPC from the Prism I have left send in the rebate. It basically means turning my Amazon gift certificate into cash. Catch my drift? I think I made it sound too complicated.

I'm mailing out 4 more tomorrow, and I have 1 left. If anyone bought the Prism but didn't get the form, Private Message me for the last 1 left. Maybe I can see if the second store didn't throw their forms away (although if the email above is correct, they may not give me any more). I'm just glad to help out my fellow Anandtech'ers who have helped me spend WAY too much money! :D

NOTE: make sure you bought it between 1/13 and 1/20

Please indicate in the heading's for these offers that are date specific.
IE Offer good 1/13/01 thru 1/20/01, it would save everyone ( ME ) a great deal of time.

Ohhhh I wish I got in on this deal. :disgust:

If you got the Prism but not the rebate, I picked up 3 extra as well; PM me if Atomics is out of 'em.

For people new to the forums- to Private Message (PM) someone, click the little notepad with the lock on it over to the right of their name. I don't know if you have to be logged in to do it or not. If you aren't a member, sign up anyway. Also click the profile button at the top of any thread to change your personal info (like enabling Private Messages for yourself).

I sent all my forms out except for my own (which I should be sending out tomorrow), and one person who sent me a messed up address. If he hasn't gotten back to me by Wednesday night, I can send his to someone else. Too bad CompUSA pulled the forms. I hope everyone who rushed out and got one without a form, is able to get one somewhere.

Well,

I sent my rebate out today. Sure hope this deal works. If it doesn't, the local CompUSA will be hearing an earful! I kept copies of everything so I'm feeling confident that one way or another I'm getting my $200 rebate or my money back.

Might as well add in info that's somewhat related to this thread.

I was an OmniSky subscriber for quite some time. They started offering rebates on the modem and such, which they extended to existing subscribers. 6 months after they started a rebate program, $100 was credited to the CC I used for billing without any intervention (I belive all OmniSky rebates work this way).

Anyway, hope you all get great deals on the Prism...

My local CompUSA really stood up to the plate on this one! They merely made the rebate "instant," i.e. they returned the Prism PDAs at the full price then resold them to me for the reduced price of $249.99. They handled the situation very well, and I was certainly happy.

I have THREE, (correction) ONE!, rebate form left if anyone needs one to help their bargaining position. PM me.

Good news for all of you that got in on this deal. I talked to a representative at the rebate center, and he told me that the rebate is indeed valid, and that they will be paying out the $200!!!!

We'll just have to see if that happens in 8 weeks!

Same. Whoo hoo! No way can you beat this deal on such a great PDA. What a sweet grab. Happy trails to all who jumped on this and managed to get a rebate form before they pulled them from the shelves. ;)

And for anyone who did buy the Prism in the required time period, but still doesn't have a form, I have one left (the guy never wrote me back). Please PM me and I will send it your way.

Uh, why bump a deal that is loooooooong dead? Not only did you have to buy it between 1/13/01 and 1/20/01, the request had to be postmarked by 2/3/01 anyway. That was a few weeks ago. No way to get in on this deal even if you did get an old form.
