Hot or not, you tell me.

Sunday's Ad shows the Cendyne DVD-R/RW Drive for $249.99 after a $50 instant rebate and a $50 Mail in rebate. Get the $50 off coupon from the usual places, order from officemax.com , then have officemax.com price match to the ad. Net cost is about $200.

Drive at officemax.com

Is this the same drive as Pioneer 104 (the OEM A04) ? then it's a good deal. the cheapest 104 is $250 or so from pricewatch.

does anyone know what the "DVD Mastering Software" included actually is?

Sunday's AD (Insert from local newspaper, or pick one up from the store)

I spoke to a very friendly CSR when I called OM on Friday and she told me about the sale starting today. She also mentioned that local stores were unlikely to accept the "web coupon" that I had but would have no problem when placing the order over the phone. The other CSR I spoke to knew about the sale and was very helpful in taking my order.

Also, there is a printable Staples in-store coupon for $50 off ($300 or $350) floating around. If you want to pursue the deal locally, I believe they accept competitors' coupons.

I still don't get why we have to pricematch...in the ad it says save $100: $50 instant and $50 MIR. On the website it is listed at $299 and says save $100: $50 instant and $50 MIR. From what I can tell, the web price already has the instant rebate factored in.

The price on the website is correct. Earlier today (around noon CDT) corporate hadn't updated the price yet. It was still showing as $349.99.

OK thanks...I knew something wasn't making sense here!

Now that that's been settled, anyone have any info on this drive? Good or bad?

The site shows the price of $299, which as far as I know includes the 50 instant rebate. You can still use the promotion $50 off $250 to bring it to $200 with rebate. Not a bad deal since this is the Pioneer A04 drive and incudes Nero.

I have heard that the Pioneer boxed drive includes crappy software and definitely does not include Nero.

The biggest decision is weater to get this now, or wait for the Sony DVD +/- R/RW drive due out in October.

Sony DRU500A

I don't think I will wait for the Sony drive. There is a discussion on this somwhere in the forum.

wow, cool machine.

Kinda OT, but how long would it take to burn a full 4.7GB disc? The Cendyne drive says it's 2x, but is that 2x as in 150 KiloBytes/sec like writing CDs? If it is, then it'd take 9 hours to burn one disc???

Please say I'm wrong, because that'd suck to have to just do it overnight when you wanted to burn a DVD

edit: just came across this page

Just a note: I ordered this from Omax about 3 weeks ago and it was not delivered within the 14 day eligibility for the rebate. It took 16 days to be delivered so make sure the order status shows as OPN.

I think deal should read like this:

349.99 Retail - 50 IR - 50 of 250 Coupon - 50 MIR = 200 + Tax

Very hot hot hot IMO.

I have a link to a 50 off 250 purchase @ staples if anyone needs it... PM me.

Where can I get one of those 50 off coupons? I just bought this in store and it works well, but its only burning at 1X for dvd-r in my copy of nero. I would return it and get one on-line if I could find one of those coupons.
Also what is a good price for blank media for this thing? I got 5 hypermedia disks at office max for 14.99 after 5 instant rebate. Ive looked on line and this seems like a good price.

I read that the drive is picky about the brand of media when writing faster than 1x. (I'd link the article, but I don't have time this morning. Search google for the pioneer a104).

CompUSA has DVD media on sale for 40% off.

I just looked at the specs for this thing...why on earth would it require specifically a non-oboard AGP video card??? Not that I would be putting this in a system that doesn't have one, but still, that seems like a silly requirement for a burner.

Does anyone have some good links for DVD burner info? I know someone has some in their sig around here, but I forgot who it was.

The 4x burners are coming around x-mas and will probably be priced to move (I hope). Anyways here how fast a 4.7 gig DVD-R will burn at:

2.0x= 30 minutes
2.4x= 25 minutes
4.0x= 15 minutes
