Had a problem with 1 unit upon reordering I had a pleasent surprise. The new 6.89 unit had a better transmission, different / better remote, and definitely a better signal to noise ratio. Of course YMMV but I am very impressed.

Will I be able to run a 3.5mm male cable into this unit from the 3.5mm speaker jack on my Zune MP3 Player?

Perfect for what I need as long as it works moderately well, thanks!
The documentation is really unclear for this item it took me a bit of time to figure out
that it apparently also plays MP3s from an attached USB slot.

Further confusing is the SD support is "via USB" which I wondered if it meant
that you should attach a USB SD card reader or if they just hid a SD slot inside the
space shared by the hole for the USB port; I think it is the latter though that's just a guess!

Being able to turn any spare USB flash disc or SD card plus this into a usable MP3
streamer is awesome; it's cheap, and especially since in those cases everything is powered by the car's power.

If you used the line-in jack to play from an external player, the external player would be operating
on battery or whatever other connected power source it may have.

The UI buttons and display look pretty much unusable while driving, but that's ok, I'm sure a major way of using
this with SD / USB is just to hit "play" and leave it running in whatever order thing happen to play in without messing
with it too much except when stopped or via a passenger's help. (A review says the remote only works at very close range
so I'm not sure that's practical to use when driving either).

If it had a connector for a coaxial cable to go to the car's antenna I'm sure the FM signal would get out to the car
much better; I'm sure one could improvise something if one wanted / needed.

Maybe now I'll have to get that 8GB flash drive from newegg...

In for one - hard to tell if it has an integrated SD card slot in addition to USB, but i guess i'll find out.

Thanks for the heads up... JS & welcome back.

*Brief Product Review based upon my experience* I bought one of these from the Geeks earlier this summer & it works pretty well. From time to time when a song may sound garbled & really fast like a chipmunk on speed, but it was fixed by either advancing to the next song & then back again. It's possible that it was due to the cheap SD card I was using from MicroCenter, but thought the info may prove useful to someone. Once you get a clear/open frequency on your car stereo it sounds pretty good.

Also beware that mine fell apart after a couple months of normal use, the tip that goes in the cigarette lighter jack fell out along with the fuse (somewhere between transitioning it between my car & my wifes car), not sure where it fell out so I can't tell you if it was an easy fix or not. But for this price I'm going to give it another try.

I can confirm that it has both a USB port and an SD slot. The one I got earlier this summer didn't have the 3.5 jack, but the addition of the 3.5 jack on this one is a welcome feature.

OBTW for those who've tried it:

* Does it digitally tune FM channels or have an analog knob or what? Can it tune to any channel?

* Can it handle any bit rate / encoding of MP3, 320KB/s or lower, stereo, mono, whatever?

* How does it index files? Lexically / alphanumerically sorted? Does it accept one or more playlists in any standard format to control playback ordering and selection?

* Does it deal with any size of SD 4GB or under? I assume SDHC may not be supported.

* Does it deal with any size USB flash disk 8GB or under?

* How's the FM broadcast work in practice compared to other FM transmitters? Is the signal particularly weak or distorted? Does it improve radically if you place it closer to the FM antenna? In urban areas with lots of strong FM stations do you get much interference?

**QuixoticOne**... It is a digital tuner and it can tune to any channel. That is the feature I liked most.

I can't speak directly to the bit rates, as I don't pay that much attention, but I know I had a variety of bit rates and didn't see any problems.

If memory serves...It seemed to index the files alphabetically by folder and then alpha by file name within the folder. If it has a playlist feature I never found it.

Can't speak to capacity of USB or Flash memory I didn't use any thing bigger than a 2 gb device.

FM Broadcast works GREAT. You can't place it closer to the antenna, as it is a single contained unit that plugs into the cigarette lighter. I'm in Mpls/St Paul & haven't had any trouble with interference.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, AkaJoseonFW, that pretty much answers my main questions. It sounds like a neat little unit for a car when
one doesn't want to invest in a higher end permanently installed MP3/HD RADIO type unit.

I've got some extension cables for the DC jack in the car and also some coaxial cable and I could've used either to
effectively place the transmitter closer to the antenna pickup but I'm glad to hear that I'll likely never even have to bother
about doing that because the transmitter works well "as is".

In for one, I can't resist the price. Even if all it does is do a decent job broadcasting the fm signal and play mp3's, that's all I need.

Thanks Joker.... and when did you come back??
