also.. how did you get staples to pricematch ebuyer? i thought staples won't pricematch online retailers?

Staples does pricematch to online retailers. And staples has always applied the coupon after the pricematch, never before. Why would you want them to apply the coupon before the pricematch?

looks like the CSR was right... here's staples pricematch policy..

Available coupons and rebates will be deducted from the Staples price to come up with a net Staples price when calculating the price match. For example, if you buy an item from us for $100, and we offer a $20 rebate, the net price is $80. If the item is available from another company for $80 or more, there will be no price match. Another example would be if you buy an item from us for $159 and you have a $30 coupon the net price is $129. If the item is available from another company for $125, the price match will be for $4.40 (110% of the difference).

Most of the coupon codes are pretty much dead. I used a coupon I received in the mail and it worked fine.

thinlizzie, how did you make this discovery? Can anyone else confirm that this paper works well with the i850 or i950? Any other paper recommendations for this printer? Anyone brave enough to try 3rd party ink yet?

There's absolutely no point in using 3rd party ink with this printer when the original Canon cartriges are so cheap. I print out B&W pages constantly on my i850 and all it costs is a $13.95 cartridge every couple of months. I went through about 600 pages before I needed a new cartridge, and the OM $10 off $20 was great for getting 2 cartridges for $16. They should last until the end of the year.

This is the absolute best printer for student who prints out tons of B&W course notes and homework sets and all sorts of stuff that adds up to hundreds of pages every term.

Okay I'm driving myself crazy!

After all my research I narrowed my selection of printers to the following canon printers:

I450 - $100
I470D - $150
I530D - $150
I850 - $150

As near as I can tell the I850 wins the day on speed, quality, and four separate Ink cartridges. Reviews have been outstanding and I can live without the standalone photo printing of the D models. Thanks to virtualgames0 the challange is now to buy the dang thing for $120. Staple coupons have been scarce. I'm sitting on a $50 off $250 but I don't need $250 worth of stuff. I'd be happy to PM another retailer but they all seem to be around $150. I thought I had the deal done at Microcenter today when I saw a stack of them with a $119 sign on them. Turns out the price is after a $30 rebate with the purchase of an iMac. (No thanks Steve Jobs I still have a NextStation sitting in my basement). I need this printer for my daughter's graduation.

Help!

I had the same exact problem. I called Cannon and they had me adjust the print quality setting in printing preferences. I had to set the quality to 3, and it works great now. I also bought mine from Dell.

Canon thought it was the printhead when I called and you want to know what the funny part is. Dell told me to ship back both printers and they gave me back $75.00 for the cost of return shipping so I actually made like $20 since they just did it at the FedEx published rates. What paper were you using though? Was there really a quality level by numbers since I thought it was only draft and then one in the middle and then best or something.

Anyone know how this compares to a Lexmark Z42 or any other lexmark printers? Mine is sucking the ink so much now, its starting to be too costly. How does the ink last for these?

I had a 30 off 150 coupon, but Staples was OOS. Went to Amazon. They list it for 134.99.
I applied for their CC. Got approved, and an instand gift certificate for $30. At checkout I got an additional $5.65 off with my Amazon trivia money. Free shipping, and no tax. Total was $99.34 . Not a bad deal I think.

waco10, the microcenter deal was for $120 without any mail-in rebates or anything. i think you might've got in late, cause i got that one. it ended june 1st.
but if you have coupons, you can try to get it off dell. i got one off them for pretty cheap with their 10% off and a $45 off coupon (bought a camera also). if you live in orange county, i can sell you one

if the rebate still exists, BJ's has the HP DeskJet 5550, which comes with 1 black cartridge, and 1 color cartridge (they refer to them as starter cartridges...not sure how much less ink they have, but all i know is that a new black/color cartridge from staples is $25 and from BJ's is like $22?), and a package of glossy paper that had like 30 or so sheets of for $100 - $30 mfr MIR = $70 AR.

Good fast printer...2400x1200...17ppm/12ppm b/c

No comparison. Canon blows Lexmark out of the water. Especially when you refill or buy generic cartridges.

I just bought one at Sam's; but at my particular store there were only 2 850s; all the rest on the floor were 950s. YMMV

Matter of taste but this is the lowest i have seen this little gem, and I have been watching it for many, many months salivating. Open box at BB was $130 just two months ago with a $169 usual retail evrywhere.

The big plus the i850 and i950 have is the 2 picoliter drops ( the best up to now has been 4 pico-the epson 960 was the first at 2pico) and this is the cornerstone of features that has earned it the printer of the year at many, many sites.
