Toms Hardware rated this printer as the best printer in their roundup here!

Costco has this printer for $135
do 110% pricematch on staples(they have it for $199), and it comes down to $128
add 4x6 canon 60sheet glossy photo paper for $12.98
add 8.5x11 canon 100sheet high res paper for $9.02
total - $150
use the $30 off $150 (if you can find it)
and bring it down to $120

free shipping for orders over $50, add sales tax.. comes to around $130 shipped...

Yep, this printer is a complete steal! I am an avid photographer (Sony DSC-F717) and this is the first printer I have owned that does the output from that camera any justice!! Separate ink tanks (and it odesn't use gobs of ink), fast and very quiet. This printer with Epson Matte Photo Paper is the shiznat!

I got mine at Sam's for $149 (w/USB cable) about 6 months ago or so.

This is pretty hot. I have owned several printers from hp to epson and this is the best overall printer out there. Pictures using the canon photo paper is superb and black text is very sharp just make sure to use HP 108+ paper. With that paper black is very close to laser quality.

I got mine for 199 from bestbuy and at this price you should really pick one up.

What is that $20 off $100 Coupon? Is it on the net? Or something in regular mail?

Thanks.

Just wanted to let you know that I've had this printer since the beginning of this year and cannot recommend anything else! I've had HP's and Epsons, and won't use anything but a Canon from now on. This printer prints excellently and like thinlizzie said, it doesnt use gobs of ink ;) It just recently started telling me the black is low, and we print quite a lot of papers too! Haven't had to replace any color as of yet (don't do a lot of color pictures or anything like that yet). Just wanted to help anyone that is trying to decide if they should get it.....don't question it, just grab it up :)

RIGorous1, very funny :) haha
Thanks.

ShotgunEd, is right.. no valid coupon. I tried to look for that but couldn't find it.

I am thinking about i950. Amazon has i950 for $235 and $25 coupon for future purchases (exp. june 7, 2003)

I hope another $20 off $100 floats around for Staples, cause $115 for i850 is pretty hot.

You can also get i850 from amazon for $135 with free shipping right now.

I am thinking about jumping on this but need to know whether anyone tried to pricematch staples with this. Do you need to take a printout of the best buy price or can you do it ovet the phone or what...? Sorry but I am newbie to price matching

there's a better deal at microcenter. it's $149 - 20% off which comes out to $120. it ends today i think (well, if there's no physical store nearby you, just go to microcenter.com)

This is a great printer, I own the i950 and absolutely love it.
After reading all the great reviews I almost purchased the i850 but decided to upgrade a little with the i950.

Between their cameras and printers Canon has been kicking some major ass the last couple of years!

I used to have a BJC-620 one of Canon's first separate ink tank printers (there was also a 610 version but I have no idea if there was a 600 model) and it was a great machine. Sure it was loud and the printing was so so but this was in 1995 and while I spent ~$10 per ink tank my uncle was dropping $30+ for his HP with similar printing. I now am using a BJC-6000, since I barely print photos and use a laser I barely need a inkjet anymore. This is the first Canon printer in a long time that I have seen that makes me itch to pull out my credit card and buy. Helped a small import company start up and got them to get this printer for printing catalogs and was shocked at how well the pictures came out. Can't really tell the difference between the digital shots I had done at Costco and the digital shots I printed with the i850. Not only that it prints in no time at all and it so quiet you can't really tell if it's printing. I'll have to say Canon's come a long way :D

I got the i550 and would have gotten the i850 at this price! Tomshardware has a good write up on this printer and it is suberb. BTW so is the i550. Inks about 13 for black and my wife prints about 400 pages per cartidge. Not to bad, and the I850 has even smaller amounts per drop.

I really wanted to quote your by line. You'd bitch about having to go pick the money off the tree.

is anyone using any special settings in the canon easy photoprint software or the canon photorecord (that came with the i850) to print their pics or just using the automatic settings? i noticed on some pictures that had dark areas were not as sharp. this is using the canon photo pro 4x6 borderless picture glossy paper.. thnx.

great printer nonetheless. worth every penny. :)

these printers still can't compare to costco's quality, right? i mean, how do these prints last? they probably fade after a while. not like real prints

I think it depends. I went to a Canon Digital seminar and had a picture printed off a 4-color i470D and the 6-color i950. Adminttedly the i470D might not be as nice as the i850 but it prints with similar specs. Now the picture from the i470D actually looked nicer than the i950. I think it has to do with the shadows. I had a picture of my lazy dog sleeping on the top of the couch (kinda like most cats) next to a window and with the i470D colors were brighter and more true to life whereas the print from the i950 looks kinda washed out. I think it maybe the picture taken was washed out due to time of day, Dusk. If you looked at the blinds in the back you would notice that the i950 was more real. BTW the picture was taken with an Canon S45. But nonetheless I like the print from the i470D better, oh well maybe too realistic is too realistic. I'm going to scan the two pics and put them up later if you want to see if you can tell the difference.

BTW, Realguns I would bitch about getting the cash from the tree. Can you imagine the costs of it. You would have to pay for good security 24-7, good money too so they don't steal from it. Costs of insuring the tree for loss of income in a drought or a bad infestation. Hire people to go up and get the money or get it yourself and you gotta make sure the people don't steal. The worker's comp. Your own insurance, because that tree ain't going be heathly for you to go up and down with accidents. And not to mention the taxes, cuz uncle sam always wants a bit of the american pie, especially if it's yours ;)

dakata24, you shouldn't have to use any special settings. Like I mentioned above the guy at the seminar just used the regular setting and the setting for the glossy pro paper. I did the same with the picture I tried out on the company's i850. Maybe it's the picture you took. I don't edit the pictures I took and it used the Exif print info so that helped. And most cameras I was told use the same Exif standard, not just Canon. If you are in California, Texas, Minnesota, Florida, New York and New Jersey go to one of these seminars to ask the presenters for a few tips, maybe test out the printers just to see maybe it's your camera not the printer (or vice versa). The guy in my area was nice and printed the pictures right from my camera so I could see the difference. Go here to read more about it: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=40&threadid=1061665

s0ssos, the pictures are reall good. I compared Costcp prints and my untrained eye sees only good pictures. I haven't tried out the lazy dog picture but will soon, gotta visit Costco to do some b-day pictures and will get this done. Then I will have three comparisions to look at.

anyone know how this compares to the s530d? cause it's only $90 after a $40 rebate at amazon. so i'm wondering if the $30 is worth it?

another affirmative here.
Bought it for $135 last week and it is excellent.
I also have the Canon A20, and my dad has the A40, excellent camera's too.
Yes Canon is kicking some major butt the last few years!!

If your interested in reviews check out the user reviews at CNET . Now even with a 7.3 rating from cnet (maybe bad model maybe bad review) look at that 94% approval from over 300 people. No other printer has this kind of approval rating from users like you or me.

Pick one of these things up. you'll love it :).

Umm...

199 - 149 = 50 * 110% = 55
199 - 55 = 144 - 20 (off 100) = 124

How do you get to $115?
