*HOT* *Blistering* *Insane* Cooler Master HYPER6 *$28* from SVC

They just had the brand new XP-90C )copper) on sale for $33.99, and now this. This is an ever better cooler for any current system. It can even be used FANLESS.

Cooler Master (Hyper6)

Comes with universal mounting hardware, fits P4's and all K8's.

This is the King Kong of CPU coolers!

Just my opinion, but I'd recommend steering clear of this monstrosity and sticking to an XP-90, or XP-120 if your mobo has the clearance for it.

This most certainly does not cool better than the aforementioned XP-90 or XP-120. The XP-90 with a Panaflo 92mm L1A outperforms it while making much less noise. The stock fan on the Hyper6 is very noisy and buzzy.

Used fanless on what? A PIII maybe. Certainly not on any of today's CPUs with the amount of heat they dissipate.

This thing comes in at 950g - that's more than 2 pounds. Add a fan and you're into 1kg territory. Not something I'd feel very safe using with such a large force on your motherboard, and if it somehow falls off you can be sure it'd put a hurtin on your video card.

If you don't mind something heavy, the XP-90C is a good choice (690g without fan). It's still lighter than this Hyper6 and its cooling performance is slightly improved over the XP-90.

Edit: Sorry for the blatant threadcrap. But when such misinformation is spread I feel it's my duty to correct it. 😛

n00b this is a threadcrap. The 'misinformation' is that it 'can' be used fanless? Regardless of which is a better heatsink, this appears to be a hot deal... no?

Go back under your bridge, troll.

Thanks for your honest opinion Bullhonkie ! I feel your post is very helpful and appropriate here. Don't be dismayed by the attacks from trolls, and keep up the good work.

Absolutely. Forums are for discussions. Screw it if somebody gets defensive about "their" thread. It's everybody's thread and we want more info on whether something is a good deal or not. [/end of rant].

I just wanted to give my opinion and help people make an informed purchase. Just IMO it's hard to recommend this heatsink when an XP-90 does everything better (cooling performance, noise, weight, compatibility, ease of installation) for just about the same price.

I forgot to include these in my first post, for those seeking more information:
Viperlair review of XP-120 with Hyper6 data
SPCR review of Hyper6
SPCR review of XP-90

As always, do your research beforehand and make an educated purchase based on your specific wants and needs. 🙂

Couldn't this be used fanless on an Athlon XP Mobile (running at or near stock, with low voltages)? That would be a pretty sweet, silent system.

Amen. And why in the world would you refer to Bullhonkie, who A) has been a member since 2001, B) has >1000 posts, and C) gives a well-reasoned dissemination of information that is exactly on-topic, as a n00b? That is ridiculous. I think you're the one who may be on the wrong board, armatron (although I won't refer to you as a n00b!), and certainly you are the one that took an impolite tone.

I also seriously doubt that this is a better performer than the XP-90. I'd like to see some proof of that statement.

Takes balls to call someone who's been here just two months less than yourself a n00b.

And you wouldn't catch me dead hanging two pounds off my motherboard. Even if you've got one of those cases that the HSF mounts directly to, unless you drill out the holes on the board so that the posts can pass straight through, you're still exerting pressure on the board.

The fans that come with the hyper 6 is actually pretty quiet. As for outperforming an XP-" " I honestly wouldnt know but mine stays cool to the touch when overclocking cpu from 2.8->3.6ghz even 3.8ghz but I usually keep it 3.6. As mentioned, make sure there's enuff space around the cpu for the hyper 6 to fit.

Coolermaster typically doesn't make crap, and generally is well regarded and above-average.

This looks like no exception for <$30 bucks. I spent $25 on my SilentBoost and this thing is only 2dB louder but has a 6c lower thermal coefficient, which is a lot when you're talking about a Athlon64 that peaks at 40c load 😉

Um, ok, so then not better than XP-90 and same price... Maybe *HOT* *BLISTERING* *INSANE* is a bit overstated, eh? I would reserve that sort of fanfare for deals like the Dell $750 off coupon. Don't get me wrong, looks like an ok h/s...maybe not the greatest deal of all time, as pitched, though.
