not hot if you can't softmod it...
9500 non pro is about as fast as a geforce3 or radeon 9500....
yes i used them both... i went from geforce3 to 9500np...
though with AA/AF on it was quite a bit faster.. but it's not really worth using AA when the card is so weak itself..

A this point the 9500 pros are FAR too expensive for what you are getting out of them. That said the non pros are even worse. Thanks for the Heads up, but if your going to game you really should be looking at a 9700pro at this point.. either that or wait a little while for them to come down a little more. 9500 's are just getting too old.

On that note, it seems like old video cards are not dropping in price fast enough anymore. a TI 4200 is still 99$ It was 99$ last summer also thats just retarded.

Go with a GF4 Ti4200 for $99.99 @ Frys, Tigerdirect, Compgeeks, who ever has it on sale or clearance this week, the 4200 is a much better card the the 9500np, now a 9700 would be a different story..

Cool, thanks! Been looking for vid cards...and still looking :) (I don't believe in paying for $200+ for them)

Also, at the same site:

9600 PRO(?) OEM -- $133. This card is DX9 supported in addition to be better than the 9500 NP. At $9 more, sounds like a good deal too. But is it legitimate? I've seen too many wrongly advertised products for these things (i.e. 9600P LITE or EZ and not the true 9600P).

I replaced my ti 4200 128 8x PNY with an ATI radeon 9500Pro and i love it.
It is faster by about 2000 2001 3d marks but more than that it gives excellent color rendetion and MUCH better 2D performance that is just plain easier on the eyes.

My 2 cents

Furthermore, the new midrange cards, like the 9600 (replaces the 9500) and 5600 just aren't too impressive. In non anti-liasing situations, the 4200 STILL compares favorable to these new cards or even beats them out. However this with directx 8 situations.

Yes, this site should contain all the legitimate stuff on account of the fact that their rating is 7/10 on resellerratings.com. But You should check the reviews and such to make sure.

final words from anandtech review of the 9600 pro
"The Radeon 9500 Pro is still the best performing solution out there in this price range, however the production run was quite limited and you won't be able to find those cards to be too available in the future so grab them while you can."

9500 pro has been referenced numerous times in this thread, but the deal is for the non-pro. not a bad price, but the gamble is in the softmod.

Be sure you do...According to many of the posts on resellerratings, their lowball priced items do not contain cables, software or any warranty whatsoever (other than DOA, for which you have the privilege of paying return shipping and possibly a 15% restock fee).

Wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot SASE.

Retail boxed Sapphire Atlantis 9600 Pros are currenlty ~$154 shipped from a reputable online vendor (GameVE) ... think I'll watch & see if the price drops any more soon.

sucks to have dx9 cards and not dx9 games eh?
ill see how things run half life 2 (if it really does come out this year...*sigh to valve*) and get a card based hl2 performance :)

I think what you get for the price of these cards isn't worth it anymore. The 9700 dipped under $200 before almost all of the stock was depleted, and the 9600 pro is getting closer and closer to the 150 mark (I beleive i've seen a couple slightly under it). The 9500 pro is still expensive if and when you can find it, so I see the 9600 pro or the 9800 non pro as the best two options right now, ringing in at 150-160 and 250-280 from cheaper resellers.

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">I've read where some 9500 non Pro cards are clocking higher than the pro boards...basically making them 9700's

if you can find one it might be worth a shot.

I've been to all my local BB's and can't find a one!

Can anyone confirm that this is the moddable one? After reading their most recent reseller ratings, I don't think I want to deal with this company. Seems like a lot of bait and switch going on.

Pretty much any online vendor these days has these policies. OEM cards are just that. Warranties on OEM cards are often quite brief.

Paying return shipping and 15% restocking fees is the norm now. Just look at Newegg, Allstarshop, GameVE, Googlegear, etc.
