I think this is a pretty hot deal. ATI offers a video card trade-up program. You trade in ANY graphics board and get discounts on current ATI products. For a while, the Radeons weren't offered through this program, but when I checked today, I found that they now are available!

Link to ATI trade-up program main page

The Radeon 64MB DDR VIVO is US$185 with trade-in. Now, you can find these boards in white box version for around that price. BUT, these are the RETAIL versions (cheapest I could find on-line was $238), and supposedly there is a $30 rebate on this card that you can send for once you receive it from ATI (see the bottom of the ATI U.S. trade-up order form). Not sure if this rebate is expired or not. I'll try to find out from ATI.

So, here's the breakdown:
$185 for the Radeon 64MB DDR
+$ 10 shipping
+$ 5 to ship your old video card to ATI
-$ 30 rebate (if still available)
----------------
$170 total cost

It's a great way to get rid of that 4 meg video card you've got sitting around. ;)

Let me know what you think of this deal. I'll provide more info on the rebate as soon as I can get it.

Wow, for this 64MB Radeon, this is a great deal!

Only prob is, that rebate form is nowhere to be found.

Searched all over their site and even on the search engines.

Still, $185 is decent for a retail $300 card.

**EDIT**

DOH! They state in the FAQ that the rebate form is attached to the box.

How does the mail-in rebate work? Once you receive your new ATI card, you will find a rebate coupon attached to the carton. Fill out the coupon and mail it to us with the proper required documentation and we will send you a cheque for the amount indicated. Mail-in rebate amount is clearly indicated on order form.

 Heh, great find!

This is the latest ATI rebate offering for purchases through authorized resellers. Will ATI count purchases from itself in this program?

Rebate should be good until March 31. ATI had a rebate program end on 1/15, but they started a new one that's good until 3/31. $30 off the 64MB DDR Radeon VIVO. Woo-hoo!

On the bottom of the U.S. order form (didn't check the Canadian one) it says that the rebate form will be shipped with the card. You should have no problem getting this rebate.

If anyone can find a better deal on this card, let us know before I jump on this! :D

I'm having a hard time trying to choose between the All-In-Wonder 32MB and the VIVO 64MB. Anyone know the performance difference between the Radeon 64MB and 32MB versions? I'm thinking it'd be real nice to have a TV tuner--too bad they don't have an All-In-Wonder 64MB yet.

Bubbles,

Go with the 64MB if you can spare the change.

The 32MB's performance is about equal to a G-Force MX.

The 64MB, on the other hand, give a Geforce 2 a run for its money in 32-bit.

:D

One thing to consider is the 4-6 week waiting period. By that time ATI may release a new ard which is why they put it on their trade-up program. Still great deal though.

Canadians can use this too! There's a Canadian trade-up form.
$275 Canadian - 50 rebate = $225 (or about $150US). I don't think you can ALSO use the "regular" mail-in rebate for the 64MB VIVO. Too bad.... that would make it about $175C for a whopper!

I just faxed my order to ATI. I'll let you know how long it takes to get the card!

Can't WAIT to pair up this 64MB DDR Radeon with my new NEC FE950 19" monitor and my 50" Proscan TV! Yeah, baby!

Can the trade-in card be ANY video card? I might be interested in this deal, but I don't want to trade in my Geforce card for a card that might be slower. I have an old ISA bus video card. Would the old ISA video card work as a trade-in?

From what I can tell, yes. I am going for the All in Wonder Radeon instead of the VIVO though.

I think Sinful's right (and I hope so too), since I'll be taking advantage of this, using my old Viper S220. ;) It's finally gonna pull its weight.

Edit: D'oh! Meant Stealth II S220. I was close, still Diamond. :p

You know at first I was all excited. I thought the Radeon 64MB VIVO was the same as an All-in-Wonder. So a $260 dollar card for 180-30 rebate. In reality all it has is VIVO. Now I am wondering why the All-in-Wonder costs about 80 dollars more. The only difference is it has 32 mb LESS and a tuner. So the tuner is worth THAT MUCH!? This is no longer a deal since you can easily find the cards on eb*y for that price. Of course that is without rebate so you end up saving $30 from the rebates only right?

You can snag the 64mb DDR Radeon on eb@y for about $190 - $210. The thing to watch out for is that a lot of those cards on eb@y are OEM cards, not retail boxed cards. The OEM's might be set up to run at a slower clock/memory speed than the retail card. (I actually saw a statement to that effect on ATI's website somewhere.)

Personally, I'd rather buy the retail boxed card through ATI for a total cost of about $170 than buy a card from some dude on eb@y, not knowing whether it's an OEM or if it is "underclocked". Just my two cents! :)

By the way, I faxed the order form in at around 4:30 PM EST, and I got an order confirmation e-mail at 4:51 PM. Also, the e-mail said to allow 2-4 weeks for delivery. Better than the 4-6 weeks indicated on ATI's website! ;)

Yeah. Some of the OEM's are WAY different from the Retail versions. My OEM Radeon came with no fan and clocked at 148/148, which is below the standard 166/166. Now with Powerstrip I can bump to 175/175 no prob even without fan, so I like my card, but still isn't the same thing you get with retail

So can anyone tell me the difference in price between the 32 MB AIW and the 64MB Radeon?

Here are a few differences betwen the two cards. There are probably others, but this was what I found from a quick skim of the product specs...

All-In-Wonder Radeon: TV tuner w/TIVO-like features & GuidePLUS | 64MB Radeon VIVO Retail: No TV tuner

AIWR: MPEG-2 video capture at 720x480 or 352x240 | 64MB VIVO Retail: AVI or MPEG-1 @ 320x240, MPEG-2 @ 640x480

AIWR: Clock (graphics chip/memory) 166/166 | 64MB VIVO Retail: 183/183

AIWR: S-Video In, S-Video Out | 64MB VIVO Retail: Composite Video In, Composite Video and S-Video Out

AIWR: Maximum 3D Resolution @ 16.7 million colors - 1920x1200 | 64MB VIVO Retail: Max 3D resolution @ 16.7 million colors - 2048x1536

Aside from lacking at tv tuner and the lower capture abilities (both go hand in hand) the Radeon 64 still has more memory and is clocked higher. Yet it's $80 cheaper! Do TV tuners really cost that much?

It think it's costing that much because there's just a lot more demand for the AIW Radeon...The 64 MB use to retail at $299.99 while the AIW was only $279.99, now it's totally different.

They don't list any restrictions on what kinds of cards you can trade-in. I thought I had an old video card kicking around here, but I couldn't find it. So I went to the local weekend computer show and found that table with all the ooooooold stuff for sale (you know that table - they're at every show in every state). Picked up an old Cirrus Logic card pulled from a 1994 Compaq for six bucks. First time I ever went to a computer show looking for obsolete technology! Felt weird! :D

In a review by Sharky Extreme for the AIW Radeon 32DDR, they were able to overclock it to where it would beat a 64DDR Radeon.

Well sure, they overclocked the AIW Radeon to 190/190, faster than the 64mb DDR's stock speeds of 183/183. That's comparing apples to oranges. O/C a 64mb DDR to 190/190, and I'm willing to bet it will match or beat the AIW at 190/190. In fact, compare the AIW's scores in that review at 183/183, same as the 64mb DDR, and you'll see that the two cards, at the same speeds, get almost identical scores.

Link to Radeon comparison at Sharky Extreme

Keep in mind, too, that at the time of that particular review (August 2000), they were working with production samples and immature drivers.

I like the 64mb DDR in this deal. Unless you need the TV tuner and/or better video capture resolution.
