This is a HOT price for this PSU.

But why would you need THAT much power for a computer?

Here's the specs.

I'm wondering if I should get this. I have a Dual Athlon XP system, 2 HDs, CD-Burner, DVD, on a 350W and I've been having some crashes.

Anyone?

It could possibably be heat related or power related. If it's either, this should fix it since it's got dual fan so it sucks heat from inside the system and blows it out, unlike lesser designed power supplies which only got a few small slits ot draw heat away. It's also providing plenty of +3 and +5 voltage for athlon systems.

Now that is a killer deal, these are new Antecs, with separated circuits for 3.3 and 5. They are much more quiet than older Antecs and have fan monitoring and control like Enermax. That is one magnificent PSU, the specs are for 80,000 hours at 25C. Perfect for dual motherboard.
Redshirt, you are right, you don't need it if you don't need it (Yogi Bera?), just think how long can 50,000-80,000 hours last to you and would you need it in a future PC?
Tristram, I don't see anything particularly cheap on netex, which one you had in mind?

The whole outside design is basically a copy of Enermax. Some say that this thing overheats because the monitoring is not adjusted well by default. But with 550W (530W actually) I don't see that would overheat at all.

Antec are really reliable power supply.

I'm running Cel 600, 4 HD, 2 CD-RW, 1 DVD, 1 ZIP, Geforce 2 card, and 5 USB devices on a 300W Antec power supply.

Yes excellent question, I'd like to know as well: Athlon XP, 2 Hard Drives, 1 CDRW, 1 DVD, good video and sound card, maybe two other PCI cards, why do we need more than 350W? (or even more than a quality 300W power supply?)

This is a fantastic deal for a 550W power supply. I'm not at all trying to say anything bad about this really hot deal, I'm just curious, since regularily priced power monsters like this cost a lot more than 300W or 350W supplies.

Most of 350W power supplies are good enough for the current systems. You look at the combined 3.3V and 5V lines, if they are at least 180W or better you have OK Power supply, if these are 200W or better you have more than enough. On +12V expect at least 15A, that's it.

The question is will that be enough in the future systems? Regular power supply will last at least 7-8 years at 12 hours a day working at 50-60%. With the rapid change of technology 350W will be insufficient in 2 years from now. Then you'll have to buy a new one again.

300W may be enough, depending on the brand and quality. It is unlikely to satisfy top notch system though that depends on the brand again, Sparkle, Delta, Enhance, and Antec will do but they'll work hard and that will decrease the lifetime.

A while ago almost nobody thought we needed 400w+ power suppliers in the near future.
