On the phone with 2nd splaes rep. now. 1st one i called told me (lied) that they were out of stock at pcallience, took him about 30 min, and he was pretty good at bullshiting it. I just called and they have 27 left, so get em while you can!! Super h0t deal!
It is definitely a high end product. I showed this price to my purchasing manager, guess what?? he almost got faint, since he spent over $400 each for our company servers. (Just two weeks
ago).
XzeroR3: I hear you. I'm not pointing fingers but I suspect the same thing sometimes. Guess a hot deal is a hot deal and it's easier just to keep my noise out of it unless something is blatantly obvious. I always keep in mind though that we are fish and a hot deal can be a hook.
Why so expensive? These probably command a higher price than the usual hub because these are stackable. That's great if you need a whole bunch of ports on the same segment. I'm going to guess that most SOHO users or LAN party gamers would be better off with a non-expandable hub and/or switch. You can still cascade devices within the usual Ethernet limits.
"Managed" or "Intelligent" features (which this hub does not have, I think) also add to the price without giving the SOHO user much value. The ability to check up on the hubs and switches at the edge of the network is great for managing a complex, physically spread-out arrangement.
Somebody said I am a junior and seems not qualified to recommend any hot deal. OK, fine and I am thinking of going to tomshardware, those guys seems more friendly.
Just call them. you can bargain & maybe save up to $30. I got one from them for $145 on last friday. Your guys can even do better. one of the salespersons (forgot his name, seems like BOb)is easy deal with.
