Up front warning: The biggest thing NOT hot about this deal is the retailer, MassMerchandise.com. Ive never dealt with them, but there's another thread discussing some of their hot deals and some people have complained about their experience. So, be warned.

That said: They have the Altec Lansing ADA310W 3-piece PowerCube speaker system, WITH Dolby decoder included, for $79.99. This set is going for $200+ everywhere else (another reason to be suspicious). They claim it's new and in retail box. Shipping is a bit vague but will be kind of steep... they charge $4.95 plus 50 cents/pound, and I think these weigh 20 pounds (from another site), so you're looking at $95 shipped. Still, if you get it and they're as promised, that would be HOT!

Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to link to MassMerchandise without including my session ID, so search for the product number. Here is some info from the mfgr:

http://www.alteclansing.com/products/ada310_systems.html

So, thoughts? Anyone have these? Seems like an awesome deal for a set with a decoder from a reputable name. I'm going to wait a day or two before ordering so you can all talk me out of it. :)

Shipping $95.00 ???

$0.50/lb X 20 lb = $10.00 + $4.95 = $14.95

OOOOPS - Sorry Monty, I see it
80 FOR SPEAKERS + 15 FOR SHIPPING

Yeah... :)

I actually didn't put the thing in my cart. I was listing what shipping SHOULD be.... want to get some more info before I give these guys my personal info.

People on the other thread are ordering expensive camcorders from them, so I guess we'll find out soon enough how reputable they are.

I don't think he has to have bought it himself for it to be hot. I think it's a hot deal too, but I have no need for speakers right now. If I found Klipsch speakers for $150, but didn't buy any, I think it'd still qualify for hot. <though I do understand your concern for the reliability of the retailer>

My friend has a set of these. They're alright speakers. The 4 speaker in 2 satellite effect doesn't do much, though, so the decoder is ultimately futile.

I was about to respond saying that massmerchandise.com is a legit place and theat I had bought there....but I haven't. That's kinda weird. Then I realized that I'm familiar with them through their spam. I'll check for coupons real quick....nope. I seriously doubt I signed up for their email

These are great speakers...good hard thumping wooden sub-woofer.

The 2 main speakers are louder/clearer than most all of the 2 speaker systems out there, too.

DONT buy these speakers for the "surround sound" Dolby effect. For that effect you plug the speakers into a USB port, and it is done through software. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'm not a big fan of it myself, however my friend has them and always has the 3d turned on. This should be considered a "bonus" effect more than anything else.

DO buy these speakers if you want good/clear/loud speakers, and don't have room for 5 speaker set up.

I think we can't consider this hot or anything until the retailer's credibility is assured...:D
