Okay, whoever said that you really have to push the RAM in wasn't kidding. How hard can I push before I have to start worrying about breaking something?

One thing I found on installing RAM is to push the RAM straight down, rocking slightly. The white latches should snap into place without pushing on them. If you push the RAM part way in and push in the latches to seat it, it doesn't always seat properly. I am not sure if anyone tries to seat the RAM using the latches, but thought I would post just in case.

Thanks for the heads up. I probably should have mentioned that this is my first DDR board. Even the fact that the RAM now has little guide rails threw me for a loop....

EDIT: Never mind, I eventually did get the RAM in with no problems. Now if only my CPU would get here.

Just for grins I stuck a 1.2 MP in mine and it boots up and is running just fine with the bios that it came with. Except it calls it an Athlon 4. Also just an FYI for us non-manual readers, you have to populate the ram from slot 4-1 in that order.

Anyone try to OC using this board yet? I'm thinking of getting 1600+ with this thing but I don't know how well it would OC. I'm thinking of getting either this board or MSI KT3 ultra from newegg.

Dammit...

I am a technical writer, and I take offense to that. The reason why most of the manuals that come with MOBOs, drives, etc. suck is because instead of hiring a translator to make sure that these things make sense and are helpful, they have some flunky who took English in 3rd grade in Taipei "translate it.

Because of these friggin schmucks, nobody reads the quality materials that a lot of companies (such as the one I work for) produce.

</rant>

Ok... anyway, still waiting for my MOBO to arrive. Thanks for all the great advice!

As for the RAM frying issue, I have had a stick fried while it was in my KG7. At the same time, my video card had a capacitor explode while I was using the machine. I was sitting there typing some stuff into Maple, and the screen goes black, and I can smell burning electronics. Not very encouraging. :) Anyway, I swapped video cards, and was getting blue screens on Win2K startup. It was the IRQ_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL STOP error. I read up on it and it said that it is usually due to bad memory. Pulled out my second stick and it worked great. I just now replaced it last week since Crucial's prices have fallen into the basement. I have no idea what caused the whole thing; it was weird. However, it gave me an excuse to upgrade from my Geforce2 Pro. :)

So everyone is happy with this board? Anymore problems that we should know about?

So far mine works great. I will keep my fingers crossed because you never know when it might act up. But so far it runs nice, this is a super hot deal. Plus they still appear to have them at Computer Geeks.

Mine works great, just seat the memory starting in slot 4 before installing MB so you can get it in firmly and completely.

I've got the board up and running and so far, it's been very good. The manual couldn't have been too bad because this is my first PC build and if worked the first go-around.

Great Deal and very good board!

Just got it up and running. It's great. My config:

KG7R w/2000XP
512M PC2700
2 x WD 120G JB
1 Maxtor 80G 7200RPM
1 WD 45G 5400RPM
1 Liteon DVDROM
1 TDK 24x CDRW
1 Liteon 32x CDRW

It's my first AMD box. Time to update my signature. Cheers!:)

Your first too, huh? Well, I guess this board is even good for newbies (myself included).

It's working fine, though I did have to push like a mofo to get that RAM in. Besides that, no complaints at all.

given the performance per bucks...which one should i get? this mobo or the one which is based on kt333 chipset?

imo, kt333 is better because the mobo only cost around 30 - 40 bucks more and you get the latest technology and you need to basically use the DDR anyway, which i should buy too even if i get this cheap mobo...BUT i need more opinion on this please

oh and newegg has this mobo for $45 and FREE shipping too...BUT the catch is that it is refurbished and you never know what will you get...i think compgeek offer is NEW one...unlike newegg..

Well, I am amazed at how well my new machine turned out. It is truley a Hot Deals Forum box! The Abit KG7-RAID from Computergeeks, a Athlon XP 1800+ from TCWO and the 512MB DDR2100 memory from the Muskin deal. And it all worked perfectly the first time. This is my second Abit board and it seems very solid and stable. It looks like they didn't skimp on the construction of the board either, the capicators in the power circuit are huge compared to most boards I've used. Now I just have to watch for a good deal on a new case... this old plain beige box just doesn't look fast enough anymore.
