Good board, it's the same one I have in my rig. My only complaint is with the memory slots. It's DAMN hard to seat the memory correctly, and this board likes to burn out sticks. I've only put Crucial in there, and I've got 2 bad sticks and sore thumbs from reseating those bastards. My friend (a CS major) who bought this same board has the same problem. His board just likes to burn out sticks. Someone else I know who bought it had to return it because the DIMM slots just wouldn't recognize RAM. The thing can be a pain in the ass, but it's a great board.

I paid $140 for it last September. Talk about a great deal!

Well Anandtech gave it the Golden Award when it reviewed the board back in November. Here's a quote from the conclusion:

"There is no doubt that the ABIT KG7-RAID is the best AMD 760 board we've seen and thus receives the AnandTech Editor's Choice Gold Award. It has everything you would look for as a hardware enthusiast, especially when it comes to overclocking as we've come to expect from ABIT. The four DIMM slots are unique among AMD 760 boards, a major step ahead of the two slots we usually see."

I had to jump on this deal too, I already have a KT7-RAID and it's been a great board so far, but this one (KG7) will support the newer CPU's. I had to pay more for the 512MB 2100 DDR ram for this board ($121 from Mushkin) than I paid for the board. My wife's going to kill me, but I have to have a hobby. :D I was just looking to get the Asus A7V333 today, but I guess I'll play with this board for a little while. ;)

Can't you just pop the bios into most other computers and run uniflash to flash it? Boot up with the normal bios, hot swap it, and flash.

When I type in the coupon code from either T@chb@rgains or F@t W@llet and click on continue, the next screen doesn't show the coupon discount. What am I doing wrong?

CORRECTION: I'm getting 10% instead of $10. I thought it was $10.

Go to techbargains. and do a search (ctl-f) for KG7RAID and you will find the code.

I found the coupon for $10 off at De@lSpree, the only one I saw at Techb@rgains was the 10% off. Either way you're going to get it for either $59 or $62 shipped, still a nice deal.

I've had this board since it came out - rock solid and no memory problems. I am using Crucial memory. From what I have read the problems come in once you overclock the fsb past 143... I found that on AMDMB forums. I haven't gone past that and I've had no problem. I've been running at 143 so long, I actually forgot that I overclocked it and tried to do it again (thought I had put it back to normal since I had zero problems).
Bought me another one.
Thanks a bunch!!!

GREAT post!

Dumb question: This board has an AMD 761 / VIA 686B chipset. Am I gonna still need to deal with 4-in-1's with this board?

Thanks!

I didn't install the 4-in-1 via driver and it works just fine.

I believe 4 in 1 drivers are for VIA chipsets, and this is an AMD chipset.

It shouldn't be an issue.

Deal with the 4 in 1s if you are using some older OS, XP seems to handle the VIA 686B chipset.

Take note however, that this is a hybrid set and the AMD 761 handles AGP and Memory communications, so if you need to use the 4 in 1s make sure u don't install the AGP portion. The southbridge (686B) handles all the other stuff, IDE, USB, IRQs, PCIs etc.

These mobos are going fast. I ordered one a couple of days ago and they had 1400 in stock. Now they have 680. If you need a slower CPU you can always pick up a Duron 900 at TCWO for $31 shipped. You can run it until you upgrade your CPU then keep the it around as a spare.

Great deal. Just couldn't resist. Now I am going to replace the the KT7A-RAID. Problem is the DDR can cost more than mobo. Got the OCZ DDR PC2100 CAS 2 at Newegg, but it costs as much as board for 256K.

I have an Alpha PAL 8045 hsf. Does anyone know if it will fit on a KG7 ?

I got the same setup. Alpha PAL 8045 hsf will fit on a KG7 without problem.

You know, I think my old 8086 had 256K of RAM. ;)

It arrived DEAD, won't power up (Actually power up for 0.5 seconds and then power down, no beep, no display). Called Compgeeks and after they made sure my CPU is not an XP, they gave me RMA#.

But I am still a little bit wonder is it possible that I connected something wrong? Do you guys know what can be the possible reason if the board is not DEAD?
