Hot 580

I have this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130590

It's hitting around 85c under load at stock currently. Would like it lower. Been looking to replace the TIM. Have tried searching for videos and all seem to be complete dis-assembly for water block installation.

So, quick question before I start... Do I need to remove everything down to the pcb or can I get away with just removing the shroud and the heatsink. It looks like I should be able to do it this way. Also, any expected results I should be looking for using nh-t1?

Looks like you can do just the shroud and heatsink.

Hot 580 is a bit redundant no?

it is in a way. It is the only family of GPUs where the sli on a card (ie: the 590) had to be down clocked to meet power/heat requirements. Meaning in programs that could only use one GPU, the 590 was slower than the 580.

244W for just the GPU (not overclocked) is a lot of heat to dump.

I can not recall which it was but one range of cards got the the title of vacuum cleaner as the blower fan was as noisy as a vacuum cleaner when at normal usage.
