First hot deal post, so I hope this one is decent... I searched for Crucial and it didn't give me anything, so sorry if it's a repost!

Office Max has 512MB of PC2700 DDR listed for $79 with a $30 rebate on their page... From what I understand, the memory is Spectec, but they are a part of Crucial or somehting like that. A $10 off $50 coupon for phone orders can be found if you look around... Here's the breakdown:

$79.99 - RAM
-$30.00 - MIR
-$10.00 - coupon code
-----------------------------
=$39.99 AR + free shipping!

Good luck to everyone on this if you try it. I don't know about the RAM, but if it's tied to Crucial, I would think it's decent, but maybe that's just what they are trying to get me to think. Let me know if you know anything about this Spectec business!

EDIT: The coupon I found is for phone orders only... If you don't care about the $10, the online order should work fine. Haven't seen an online $10/$50 code lately...

EDIT#2: Not having much luck getting anyone on the phones, so I tried to order online. It's OOS on the 512MB, but they say they will keep it in backorder for 14 days before they cancel the order. Gonna give it a shot... $49.99 still ain't too shabby!

Spectek's Crucials lower end division. They sell RAM that gets rejected by Crucial's testing or surplus memory. I own two sticks of 256mb Specteks, they're running 2-2-5-1 @ stock speed on FIC AU13 dual channel.

Hmmm just noticed somehting bad. Edit#2 said they were OOS on the 512MB and these Omax rebates have to be postmarked within 14 days of purchase. I guess if I don't have my RAM within about 10 days I will have to cancel the order, or be hosed on the rebate. DARN THESE SHORT OMAX REBATES!

Gonna try B&M tomorrow too and see what they have it for, since I drive right by there on my way to work.

i've heard that there are often problems with specTek RAM, and that the return rate was so high newegg stopped carrying it. That said, i've been running 2 sticks of 256MB specTek PC2700 at speed, dual channel in a computer that's on 24/7 for a week now with no problems, so who knows.
It performs well enough; cranked up my HTPC's 3dmark 2001 score significantly over 1 stick of 512MB Samsung (because of the dual channel thing, and that i'm using onboard video on this computer).

i dont think spectek is the reject arm.

its made for a different market.

there are 3 markets. crucial is for retail. spectek is for gray market retailers, and things like being resold as pny or kingston etc. and then there is the micron oem ram, that goes into say dells, or hp computers.

the only thing you cant get on spectek is they dont sell high performance stuff, since they are more commodity memory. so not CL2 ddr400 specteks
