Hot 42'' 1080p Spectre for 999 after MIR

I just got the email.. it is 1366x768 (720p) not 1080p.. it is simply "upscaleable to 1080p using Faroudja Technology." Still a kick ass deal!

Thanks for trying but for 768p this is only warm. 1080p for this price would be white hot. Please update the your thread.

768p vs 1080p at 42" does not matter.

1080p is mostly marketing hype anyway. Cable, satellite, and OTA are not 1080p and won't be due to bandwidth constraints.

it matters if you want to use it as a PC monitor @ 1920x1080

"1080p is mostly marketing hype anyway. Cable, satellite, and OTA are not 1080p and won't be due to bandwidth constraints." Really? Please give me a heads up on this, as I was under the impression that a 42" LCD that was 1080 would have a much better pic than a 42"plasma, that was, say maybe 720. I know, apples and oranges. Is this plasma 1080 HD?: Panasonic TH-42PX60U 42" Plasma TV
(16:9, 1024x768, 10000:1, HDTV - MPN: TH42PX60U) ????

The Panasonic TH-42PX60U does 480p/720p/1080i. It is not 1080p.

A 1080p set is really only useful if you want to either use it as a PC monitor or if you have a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray player.

Thanks for the info. I thought that watching HD programming on a HD TV that is considered 1080p, would be much nicer, (detail, clarity, contrast, colors) on a 1080p VS. 720p.

In most situations... 720p is fine for HDTV, DVD 1080p is better for PC use, or HD-DVD/Blueray... i'll be getting the 37" westinghouse for a pc monitor so 1080p for me

I still think it's fantastic how people will feel compelled to post in every 1080p thread that it is mostly hype. I'm pretty sure that anyone reading in this forum could figure out that for watching TV it doesn't make much difference. Most people reading the forums looking at this are concidering 1080p for a dual tv/computer monitor. 720p is aweful for that.

fwiw, their 20" and 22" monitors both had DVI ports that failed me after about 30 days (weird). obviously this 42" is a different animal... at least costco has zero risk return policy... so just an fyi to folks considering.

I don't think 1080p is marketing hype at all. Seeing several displays of high-end setups at Best Buy and Circuit City, the 1080p's are mind-boggling! So much so that I just 'downgraded' my 50'' 720p in favor of the Westinghouse 37''1080...Now I just need a PS3 to watch blue-rays on.
