That's with membership, which usually requires you to purchase one book within a year a regular price. It's still a good deal, but the shipping usually hurts and book can take weeks to get.

1. You have to join their book club.
2. You have to agree to purchase 3 more books over the next 2 years.
3. You can't cancel until you purchase the additional books.
4. You get a magazine with selections every THREE weeks and you have to return it saying no or you automatically get the book.

I'll pass.

For those too lazy to read the membership agreement (somewhat like I am) heres how it works:

Basically the same as Columbia House for those of you that have used that. What you get is a few books REALLY cheap now, and you agree to but 3 more over the next 2 years. Theres no way out of that one, its a legally binding contract.

The three week thing is this: every 3 weeks, you will recieve a nice package in the mail from them. In this package will be a flyer that contains all the books they have for order, and the price. There will also be an order card included with it. Now, if you do not return this order card to them with specific instructions NOT to send you the "book of the month", then they will send it to you automatically and charge you. It just becomes a hassle after a while to send it to them.

If you want this offer, what I suggest doing is pick out 7 books that you want from all of them. Order the most expensive 4 first (for $6), and then, when you get the first mailing from them, order the other 3 (or 1 book every time you get a package from them for the first 3 times). That way, you can cancel right away, and not worry about it in the future, as you've met your obligation and gotten the 3 books. You end up with 7 books, and 4 of em cost you $6 + shipping

Thats the easiest way to do it I've found. Find 3 really cheap books you think you might use, and find 4 books that you KNOW you'll use. Order the cheapest things they have after, and your set.

It's like Columbia house, They lure you in by giving you free stuff and then require you to buy their products at a high price + shipping.

Plus, it gets really annoying with all the junk mail you receive from them and they even send you things you didnt order! If you dont check off in their mailers that you dont want their product (Take a CD for example), They will ship it to you and charge you.

It becomes a real pain. After i completed my agreement, i replied to take me off their mailing list. Didnt work.

I placed "moved, return to sender" on a CD i didnt order and... so far so good...

Haven't checked today, but you used to be able to join this club at http://www.cbd.booksonline.com/ and get the same deal, but only have to order one book within the next year. If you are interested in this deal at all, you should check on joining that way. May save you some money/hassle that way.

These people have plenty of good deals once you are a member, BTW, and meeting your obligation isn't usually a problem. Today I ordered Internetworking with TCP/IP for $16 (list $67) and Internetworking with TCP/IP vol II for $17 (list $65). Both of them count towards my commitment. They have deals like this all the time, you just have to be patient. And if you have friends who you can convince to join, you get 2 more free books when they pay for their books. Very good club, overall.
