I've returned an oem 75gxp to IBM before. No problems. In fact to RMA it they wanted just the model # which is DTLA????30 (for 30g) which is on all of the drives, oem, bare, or retail.

Guess we'll just have to wait till tomorrow or technically later today to find out who gets them. However, there's gotta be quite a few in stock...unless some ass buys 50 or more of them at once. Damn resellers....they should have put a limit on this.

Excellent deal, but I tried to find this drive without the anandtech link and it sells for $156 and says not in stock. Don't get me wrong, I ordered one for $75.95 - but my confidence is low on this order being filled. Check this out...see item #12.

Don't need them with my 40 gig maxtor. But ordered two as well. Too good of price.. set up a nice raid with my K7T-RAID as well. 100 gigs should last me at least a fair amount of time..

allright... sorry again, but how would i see if this is compatible with my computer? i was happy to be able to install the zip cd (just taking the plugs out of the old drive), but this seems a little harder. i have one hd, a dvd, a cd-rw, and one free slot. is this easy?

I read a magazine article in MaximumPC (Watchdog column) regarding IBM's policy regarding OEM drives and they refused to honor any kind of warranty on them. Other manufacturers they checked with (Maxtor was one, others listed also) would help you out if you tried the place of purchase first but not IBM according to the article. Not to say this isn't a good deal anyway but just don't say you weren't warned if something goes awry. And assuming this is an OEM drive. I wouldn't expect a pleasant surprise for half price though.

Pulled this from their legal disclaimer:

"All OEM products must be purchased with another computer components. Failure to do so will result in order being cancelled or warranty voided."

Does this mean you need to purchase something else along with this drive?

Also, these drives are in the clearance area, and here is what is says there:

"Products in our Clearance Store are either returned items or have been in our inventory for over 90 days."

I'm a newbie... just looking for the catch :)

This is not an OEM drive that came with the computers. You will get a 3 year warranty with these. Don't have to order anything else. Correct me if I am wrong.

"Products in our Clearance Store are either returned items or have been in our inventory for over 90 days." interesting. i hope they have been sitting in the warehouse.

and this too:
"...due to their high demand, we cannot guarantee their availability."

guess some of us won't be so happy tomorrow.

ok, i ordered 2 so i can apply the $10 off $100. also did ebates. comes out to be $159 shipped (w/tax) to CA. then $10 off and 3% from ebates should make it for about $145 for 60GB. hmm. let's hope it works.

First of all, IBM's 3-year warranty will stick. I've bought nothing but OEM Maxtor, Western Digital, and IBM for the last twelve years and have YET to have any of the three balk over a drive that gave up the ghost before it's time.

I ordered another two to complement my BE6-II 2.0 RAID0 config of two already. Four of these puppies in a single RAID0 configuration - SWEET JESUS!

I ordered 2 and I got their "free gift" too, a nice screwdriver kit that will proof useful when I work on my computer. I've done RMA on an OEM IBM drive before with no problems. The only thing is that I was put on hold for a long ass time before I talked with technical support.

I saw a RAID review on the web where the reviewer had tested 2- and 4-disk striped ATA 100 arrays and found little to no performance increase in a 4-drive setup (master/slave filled on both channels). Has anyone found this to be untrue? Just curious since we got some RAID freaks in da house.

Off AccesMicro's page:
Manufacturer: IBM
Manufacturer P/N: 07N3929
AccessMicro P/N: XRI4330B67
Platform: PC
Warranty: Manufacturer warranty
OEM CPU 30 days
Return: Only within 15 Days
No Returns After 15 Days

I have yet to have any problem with OEM HDDs being RMAd

Okay just so I can prove I'm not full of crap I dug out the December '00 issue of MaximumPC. On page 23-24 in the Watchdog column a guy is whining about his 34GXP that he picked up at a computer show which died 2 months later. He finds out from IBM the drive was sold to Gateway who won't even talk to him because he didn't buy a Gateway PC. Here is the last line of the response from the article's author who states that he has "done some research on vendors' policies concerning OEM drives":

"IBM maintains its position that it will not warranty OEM drives, period."

Now I'm not gonna argue that MaximumPC is the last word but there it is in black and white from a journalist who implies that he has called and checked with the manufacturer. We also don't know if the drive is bare or OEM (two very different categories) since the product info page at accessmicro.com uses both words in it. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
