HOT - 27" tv for $229 at Circuit City

Just bought this TV at my Circuit City today. From what the salesman told me, this is a national price, so should be avalible to everyone. I saw the $250 sharp tv in the sale ad, and was going to buy it, but they had none in my store, so looked at some other models, and the Sharp 27" with MTS sound, componet, svid, front and rear a/v, comb filter, was only $229. It was marked $299, but they didnt have the new tag on it yet, so must just be on sale.

Nope, no svid output, but it does have a svid input for you to hook your dvd player up to, componet input too.

I like Sharp tvs. I've got a 27" flatscreen($399 open box @ BB) that I like better than my son's 27" Wega.$229 for a regular Sharp is a good deal IMO.

I am going to get a new 27" TV as a replacement for my 27" Hitachi which is solid as a rock. I looked at this but I want a Foreign TV again. Many people suggested SONY but my Sony computer broke just after warranty, and so did the CD player. I think that I may go with a Toshiba or Panasonic. It must have Stereo and a flat or almost flat screen. The Hitachi is preflat screen but the screen is very very flat.

Foreign TV - that's rich. The last domestically produced TV (to my knowledge) was the Zenith in the fake wood cabinet that they bought in the 80's. Anything you get today is made overseas.

I can't find any information about this model # anywhere on the web...even on Sharp's web site.

It doesn't match Sharp's model numbering system at all. Sharp model numbers all seem to have the following format:

##A-A###

Where # represents a number and A represents a letter (e.g. 27R-S200).

Perhaps CSR20027 is a Circuit City model no.? But there's no sign of this TV on the Circuit City web site either.

Not to take this too far off topic but I sold TV's for 7 years at Sears. Magnavox had a 27" set that was made in America. It was one single model and it had a big sticker on the screen saying "MADE IN USA". I don't remember people caring one way or another but I distinctly remember that we carried it. This was probably 7 ago.

Now, back to Sharp TV's. They are nice set's that have gotten some really nice write up's in the past year or two. There is no SVideo OUT on a TV so don't even ask about it. The component connection is the way to go for hooking up your DVD player. The Comb Filter only benefits you if you are watching analog signals (broadcast TV, cable, Laserdisc).

$229 is a nice price for that set. I may check it out myself.

It's a close call, in my opinion. The mono isn't important if you have a home theater setup. The Apex doesn't have a comb filter, but the reviews are pretty positive about the picture quality. So it comes down to whether component inputs and a comb filter are worth an extra $30. Considering that we're all trying to save money on these low-end sets, any extra money saved (or rather, less money spent) is good.

This is much better than the apex. I almost bought the apex, and I am glad I didnt. This sharp has componet input, stereo sound(and the best I have ever heard on a tv), plus a dark tube and a comb filter. And more importantly, the sharp has a much better warrenty. It is not close at all, the sharp is a far better tv. It would have been worth the $300 it was origionally marked.

I am trying to decide between this Sharp TV and a 27" JVC set (AV27320) at Best Buy.

Here are some of the specs:

Until Saturday the 20th, this TV can be obtained for $243 (if purchasing with the Best Buy Credit Card), $13 dollars more than the Sharp TV. I have always thought of JVC as being one of the leaders in the TV market, so I would assume the quality surpasses the Sharp model.

Do you guys think the $13 difference is worth it?

Yes, better comb filter alone is worth $13. Are you going to watch cable/broadcast on your TV? If the answer is yes then get the JVC. A comb filter cleans up analog signals and that is exactly what regular TV is. It matches the Sharp feature for feature plus it has the better comb filter and for $13 it's a no brainer!

Keep in mind, though, that the S-Video input on any TV bypasses the comb filter. So it's a moot point if you're going to be using the S-Video in exclusively. I bought this Sharp set last night and am very pleased with the picture (which is coming from the S-Video out of my TiVo).
