Samsung TXL-2791. It is a really good TV to view DVD, and Football too. Amazon.com has it for same price but you should pay shipping.

Sam's Club has the clone version of this TV, "Akai CFT2790" for $379.

The TV has Widescreen function which is good to view DVD!

Please post other good 27" Pure Flat Tube TV in this thread.

Damn, I am really in the market for the same TV but in 32'. Why cant they have the one I want for $550 or so 🙁. Tempted to get this one, but damn, I want 32. What to do?

40"XBR IS phat, but much phatter then my budget. $800 or so is my max that i want to spend now Damn 27" for $379 is soudning better and better tho, UGHHH!!!

I myself would love for anything over 60", but don't really wanna pay over $3000. So for the time being I bought myself a Toshiba 27" flat for $250 after PM, (don't ask, it's too late). It'll do for now as I'm using a 10yr old 19" tv!!! Figure that when I can hunt down a great deal on a big screen, the 27" would be a great gaming tv. If I haven't got the Toshiba, the Akai would definitely be a choice since it support the 16:9 compression...

I'm looking at making a purchase on a flat screen 27" within a few weeks. I'm looking to spend under $600. Searching through the deals, this may be the best one. Anyone have this TV yet?

I got this TV for my in-laws last weekend at Best Buy - amazing picture with their digital cable.
Was $449 - 10% prefered customer weekend coupon = $405 + tax

I was trying to get them 32", but they wanted only 27", so this flast screen was good compromise.

Before you buy make sure check the depth - this TV is about 4" larger, than normal 27".
Also it is extremely heavy - you need 2 men to lift it.

The akai for $379 is killing me right now. Closest sams is an hr away and dont think it will fit into my Ford Focus 🙁

I picked up the 27" Sharp flatscreen as an open box @ BB for $399. I really like this TV--compares very favorably to my son's 27" Wega. I looked at the Samsung but preferred the Sharp.

I spent a long time this last weekend going back and forth between the Samsung and the Toshiba. I ended up practically flipping a coin on the image quality. The Toshiba has two S-video inputs and the Samsung has one. Since my Apex 500 DVD player doesn't have component out I'll be using the S-video from that and from my digital cable box. I didn't know about the 16:9 feature of the Samsung.

Here are some links for the Samsung:

And, according to Consumer Reports, the Samsungs have slightly worse reliability than the Toshibas. If you do get a Toshiba, make sure to get a Hitachi tube, so said the sales guy at best Buy. He said that Toshiba uses tubes from two sources, Hitachi and somewhere else not as good. He said that the Toshiba 27AF41 has two S-video inputs and I took his word for it but I don't see that confirmed on their site. Can anyone verify that the Toshiba does or does not have two S-video inputs on the back?

I don't know about the 27" but I have the 24" version of the Toshiba (24AF41) and it has one S-Video on the back, in addition to 2 composite and one set of Component. The front has one composite input. The 27" could be different though.

Man I'm definitely in the market for a 32" or a 36"er... I've been hunting for about a week, I'll keep you posted. Let me know if you find anything (trying to get a nice silver flat screen for a decent price) wcfrench@loyno.edu

Thanks,

divide_by_zero, just get yourself a switch box, then you can have 4+ s-video input. Useful if you want to connect a PC or game system too.

I just got my Phillips 32PT81S today and it looks so sweet, it was an open box at best buy, returned because whoever returned it thought it was too big, so i paid 650 for a brand new tv with the remote and the box, this tv has all the bells and whistles of any wega, including 16:9 compression, pip, and plenty of connections including 2 s-videos, phillips is coming out with new models soon and thats why i got it so cheap, but anyone looking for a new tv this one is definately a great buy

edit: anyone know what settings are the best for the tv, this is my first good tv and i don't know what i should do with all the contrast and brightness settings

Has someone had any luck getting into the convergence service menu ? The regular service menu (poweroff-MUTE-1-8-2-poweron) does not have a submenu for convergence. Please let me know if you find out how. The guns appear to be slightly out of whack ... and a convergence tweak will fix it.

Please email. Thanks.

Max.

This is prolly real stupid ? and prolly belongs in I WANNA, but...seems kinda relevant here?
How do you find the open box specials @ BB? 😱

Hey,
I don't know if there is a better way, but for the open boxes, i just walk around the aisles, if they have an open box, they seem to put it with the regular closed boxes. The Panasanic TAU open box I was looking at was right next to a regular one. I am also looking for a TV. I have my heart set on the Toshiba 32AF41, beautiful 32" flat screen, but cheapest i've seen it is $899 at goodguys. If anyone sees any good deals on a 32" please post, i've been to Best Buy, Circuit City, cruised all the websites, went to Brandsmart, but I haven't found any good deals yet. I did see a Panasonic TAU 32" flat open box for seven hundred and change, i can't remember exactly how much. I went back today and it was gone!

Do these guys (BB, Sams, etc) deliver for a reasonable charge? If not, I may have to rent a pick-up truck as the only friend I know driving a SUV is out of town now. :|
