Hmm... OK, I bit on this one. Wonder if it'll go thru... I found 15% off, but no free shipping. BTW, where did you see product info? No details available online.

Does anybody know what kind of animal this is? This seems to be the manufacturer. But there is no info about this specific product. Based on the description and the larger image on Newport-News site, a "base unit" connects to the PC and music is written to a memory card. Then the memory card is used in the player.

The base unit is marked CWR-310. The memory card appears to be SmartMedia (???). There seems to be no controls on the player. The business-card-sized CD on that picture does not seem to be related to the item's functionality.

Here is the info I copied from the site, although I am sure you have probably seen it already. Sounds complete from the description. Hope so since I ordered 3.

MP3 music player
MP3 System from Dream Quest®: Station/unit downloads music/information from computer onto memory card, for playback anywhere on portable MP3 player. Includes station, 16-meg. memory card, MP3 player, earphones. PC and Mac-compatible. Uses 1 "AAA" alkaline battery. Imported. *Add 2.95 to shipping fee; no shipment outside 48 states.
was $199.99 now $5.00

I follow that link and it says the player's added to my cart, but the cart is empty. Can't find the thing anywhere on the site by searching... sold out?

No. It did the same for me. You just have to add it anyway or it will show as empty.

I am confused as you, but I took the card sized cd as being the software needed to install, not the medium to be recorded.

How the heck do you add the coupons??? This checkout seems a little more than slightly complicated...Do you add it on the page with the credit card info and go on?

I would not wish this player on my worst enemies, even for $5.

There are two versions of this player BTW, parallel and USB. Pray you get the latter so your order isn't a total loss.

64MB max memory. What's that, about 10 songs? Muhahaha. Just buy ten for $50 and carry around the same number of songs as my $40 MP3 CD player.

The memory is MMC.

Got it, thanks. Their server is very slow and the page was taking forever to actually load the buttons to add the thing to the cart. Funny you can't find it any way but going straight to the link.

The manufacturer's site lists up to 32 MB memory. Has anyone actually tried a larger memory card? If this thing can address larger cards, or even SD cards (which have the same form factor), it might be a very decent deal.

I know it is not much of a player, but the novelty of it will suit my 7 and 9 ages grandaughters ... what kind of toy can you buy for that? I got them armband fm radios for $3.99 each and they played with those for hours and this is much better. I am probably most concerned that it is so old that it won't be supported by some operating systems. I may ber a dummy, but is Win XP so backwards compatible it will work with devices made for 98? If not, maybe it will wprk on one of my other computers.

I'm curious about handling bigger cards too, but even if it doesn't I have enough of the smaller MMC and SD cards that always come with camera's, Palm & Visor add-ons etc. to make this worthwhile. Will keep me from carrying my Palm while working out.

Just ordered 2 for a total of $9.98 including s&h. Considering they were allegedly once worth over $400, I thank the OP.

I'm in too, I almost think that we either get nothing or just the base station. I guess we all have to wait and see huh?

I am not sure if these will work with SD but this says that you can use a 128mb MMC with it. I may have to order a few

I found the free shipping code...It's posted on one of the other deal forums. You still pay $2 for "handling." I bought four. I have no idea why.

Edit: Violated the rules on my first post, yay...

There's a large thread on Newport News, including this item, over at FW...seems a lot of folks' orders are being cancelled.
