Hot 1600+?

I have a 1600+ on a Kr7 mobo with a Alpha 8045 w/ Panaflo L1a fan on it and its idling around 52 degrees! System temp is around 32-33...I dont know why? I'm gonna pull off the HSF and reseat it and hopefull that will help...do the new AGOIA chips run hot? ...Oddly...When I OC to 166fsb...idle just jumps 2 degrees to 54.

\Anyone know what I can do? Thanks!

That temperature sounds about right. Your room temperature must be high then. Do you have any case fan to circulate the air flow in the case??

This is Antz's roommate replying for him...

Arctic Silver 2 is being used and there are 4 case fans on his Lian Li. There are three computers in this room that's warming the place up some, but I believe he has taken into consideration already that the room is warmer than the others in this apt. Like he mentioned though, his case temp (and mine) run at about 33.

So 49-50 degrees isnt hot? He claims he was getting 43 before with a non agoia xp1600...

Yes...room temperature is kind of high because like my roomate said...theres 3 computers in a room thats about 10x14 but the reason I assumed it would run cool still was because my case temp stayed the same (same as in as when it was out in a big room where ambient air wouldnt affect the case temps)....

I just removed the heatsink and put some Arctic Silver 3 on...I'm going to give it 72 hrs before I check the temps again...

Currently the idle temp is 52.50 and Peak using Prime95 is 61.50

I've also gone back to OCing my chip and its at 166fsb x 10.5 = 1743Mhz...

what are your voltages? if it's default, then ur 1600 seems a tad high...i would expect around 45 idle with that panaflo.

  • Check your vcore with MBM.
  • Check your hsf rpm " ".
  • Flip your hsf fan. Test temps again.
  • Check your case airflow. Any obstructions? Clean it all up.

Vcore is set at 1.750
HSF RPM can't be checked b/c i'm using a 2 lead panaflo L1a
Tried flipping the fan to blow ONTO the heatsink and that dropped the temps about 1 degree.
Case airflow is fine....no wires obstructing the airflow at all.

Thanks for your response jaybee!

Your temps with the L1A look about, right it's hard to use an L1A while overclocking & not get higher temps.

The part I find strange is this
So 49-50 degrees isnt hot? He claims he was getting 43 before with a non agoia xp1600...

If those numbers are correct correct then you've increased almost 10 cel just by swapping an XP for an XP, that's not right.Did you change anything else. Was your room/case temp cooler when you got 43 cel with your first XP?

Oddly...When I OC to 166fsb...idle just jumps 2 degrees to 54
thats normal Increasing the bus speed will increase cpu temp.

Well...there was no real change besides the chip. One thing is....When I got this chip I immediately tried OCing it...so I never really gave it a chance to run at default.

Nothing else has changed...But I did switch over to Artic Silver 3 after I realized the hot temps....It lowered temps only about 1 degree
